Hi,
I would like to synchronize my backup MSG file to the same data state as the primary one.
Replacement MSG data:
Vehicle registration number, year of manufacture: 1997.
MSA15
VW ET number: 028 906 021 GL
Bosch part number: 0 281 001 655/656.
Data for the currently used MSG:
AHU, manufactured in 1997.
MSA15
VW ET number: 028 906 021 AT
Question 1:
Can you simply copy the dataset from the current MSG, flash it onto the EEPROMs, and install them in the second MSG (the EEPROMs are already socketed in MSG2, but not in MSG1, the master)?
Question 2:
If not, then how?
Question 3:
Both are MSG units of the same series, and the engine alternates between using both MSG units.
Regards,

Hi,
Just check if the hardware revision is the same.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello,
Do you have a picture of the device, or of both of them?
What is the physical form factor of the EEPROMs (DIL 28, double-sided, 14 pins per side)?
Regards,

You can find pictures of the AFN-MSG here:
I haven't taken the 1Z-MSG exam yet, but I might consider taking it later.

You always have your finger in front of the flash .
because it's so dark in the bottom right corner.
Do DIL EEPROMs are only used in the older (dual-board, dual-processor) MSA12 systems, right?

Hello,
'Specifically, the MSA 12 models have the older DIL 28 EEPROMs, which are relatively easy to copy, especially if they are already socketed. For the 4-pin EEPROMs, the main problem is desoldering them; they usually get damaged if you're not extremely careful. However, the professionals who do tuning should be able to access the data through the debug interface. In my second MSA 15, the tuning data was implanted through this interface and can also be reset. If you plan to attend the Essen Motor Show, you'll find plenty of people who can help you. Also, the hardware should ideally be the same revision number, and the software modification shouldn't be a problem.'
Regards,
Georg.

Hello Georg,
MSA12 is a) not the topic here, and b) these things tend to have their contacts fail more quickly.
as one might say 'beep' (not to mention the cable breaks in the flat cable between the circuit boards) .
The only MSA15 that can be flashed via OBD is available from Opel. It at least supports BSL/Debug.
'It doesn't work with the MSA15.5 running version 3.0 because the version of the C166 chip used is...'
did not support (I haven't tried versions 3.1, 15.5, or 15.7; if that actually happens...).
If you know who did it, could you please send me a private message and let me know?
@Jens
If the installed STG (Sequential Transmission Control unit) is not a 3.1 MSA15 (as shown in the pictures), then...
If the data set is currently in use, it cannot be copied.
Wenn die Daten Original sind, sollten Rainer oder ich den Datensatz haben. If not,
It only helps to desolder and read.
Best regards,
Rudi

Hello,

rather a never-ending chatterbox .
The contact persons listed here seem to be the right ones, and it would take a very long time to find someone else who could help with this. The problem with this project is more that it's a "research project."
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rudi,
First of all, I respect your expertise – I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about the subject matter.
Having owned several TDI Audis, including a B4 TDI from 1993, a Cabrio TDI from 1996, and now a Cabrio TDI from 2000, and having dealt with various engine control units (ECUs) along the way, I wanted to share my experiences with Jens. However, with the 2000 Cabrio, it's definitely not the case that an EEPROM chip was removed and replaced. Nevertheless, it has a different software version. My conclusion is that there's an interface on the circuit board, and that's how the new software is installed.
Is this reasoning wrong???? Asking the expert????!!!!!
Thank you in advance if I receive a response.
Regards,
Georg.

Hello,

Yes, but for the control units in question, a soldering iron is necessary.
Best regards, Rainer.
