Hello, unfortunately, my engine failed today (timing issue). I have an A6 TDI from 1996 (C4) with a 115 hp engine, identification code AAT. Now my question: Is it possible to install a V6 TDI engine into the C4? If so, how much effort is involved, what do I need to consider, or is it completely pointless? Has anyone ever done such a conversion before?

A V6 gasoline engine and a V8 can also fit in there. I've even seen a twin-turbo V8 in a Type 89Q.
So, why wouldn't a V6 TDI fit in there? Especially when combined with a DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox), it would be an amazing powertrain.
The only problems you might encounter are likely to be related to the exhaust system (specifically, the clearance between the splash guard and the engine).
Alex.
