Hello,

I know it's a Diesel forum... but I have a problem with my gasoline engine and I can't find any helpful information in the usual forums because of a lack of technical expertise.

Vehicle: SEAT Ibiza 6KIII, manufactured in September 2000, 1.4 16V engine, 75 horsepower, engine code AUA (same as Golf IV, Polo 6N2, Audi A2, etc.).

Problem according to VCDS: Error message "AGR flow too low" accompanied by the engine warning light, reappearing every 2-3 weeks.

Repairs already carried out:

- EGR valve replaced (original part).
- EGR and throttle body re-calibrated.

"The error keeps recurring... Is it possible to adjust the EGR rate for gasoline engines in VCDS? If so, which measurement block (MVB) would I need to use? Otherwise, any ideas about what might be causing this? It doesn't seem to be related to the EGR valve itself, as that has already been replaced."

Greetings.
George.

Oh my god, I know this crappy gasoline engine...
The problem is located exactly where the EGR pipe connects to the throttle body. Oil vapor and combustion residue mix in that area, which reduces the flow. Remove the EGR pipe from the plastic intake manifold and verschandeln the hole leading to the intake manifold.

Please let me know if it was actually due to that!

hey,

So, you mean I should remove that long metal tube, thoroughly flush it out, and verschandeln the openings in the cylinder head?

Sounds simple enough... When I have the car next time, I'll verschandeln everything and recalibrate the valve again. If it still doesn't work after that, I'm honestly starting to feel lost.

Could this "filter" be clogged? The EGR system has a long plastic hose connected to it that ends in a filter, which is for drawing in outside air.

Yes, exactly, it usually gets clogged right under the throttle body where the EGR valve connects. It's not that filter you're talking about! And yes, that long metal pipe needs to be removed.

Okay, I understand. Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English.

So, I understood that correctly then. What I meant about the filter was actually as a potential additional source of error.

"Once the car is here, I'll remove the pipe and properly flush it out; I think brake cleaner should do the trick. Of course, I won't be flushing anything into the exhaust system, specifically the connection point."

I think I still have a can of throttle body cleaner at home; I believe it would be even better for this.

Okay, I've just gotten around to this now...

"The EGR valve was clean, and so was the pipe. However, the throttle body was already completely black with carbon buildup and greasy again... all due to the dirty crankcase ventilation system, which is forcing a lot of oil into the intake. (I had completely disassembled and cleaned everything just about 40,000 km ago)."

Okay, I've definitely found the EGR issue. The bore in the throttle body flange where the EGR pipe connects is about 12mm in diameter on the pipe side... On the flange side, there was still only about 1-2mm of space free; the rest was completely clogged with carbon buildup... I cleaned it until it was spotless.

Now the error didn't reappear icon_biggrin.gif. Good tip, so thank you! I wouldn't have looked at that spot.

Thanks for the feedback! These types of gas stations are often unreliable, which is why friendly mechanics are happy to sell EGR valves, while the real cause is usually a blockage!
