You could simply plug the Z1 connector into your car's 3C socket (move the passenger seat back, remove the plastic cover, and connect the plug). Then you can see if it really works without the casing.

I would guess that Skoda means: either with a charging cradle ("optionally with..."), or with a Bluetooth pairing adapter or touch adapter, or just the console without anything plugged in ("without a charging cradle"). But that's just my wild guess. You should check the Skoda owner's manual to see how to perform pairing without a charging cradle...
