Hello,

I'm having the following problem:

I would like to disable the standard seatbelt warning system in my Caddy, manufactured in October 2009, with a 2.0L TDI engine and 140 horsepower.

Regarding the STG 17 (combination instrument) --> Coding 07.

I can also get to where I want to go.

So far, so good.

Then, an information window pops up, which displays:

00??x0x: Features/Specifications/Equipment.
+01 = Brake pad wear indicator active.
+02 = Seatbelt warning indicator active.
+04 = Windshield washer fluid level warning indicator active.
icon_smile_thumb_up.gif6 = Split rear window (Only VW Jetta).

Then, we proceed to country selection, using the numbers 1 through 7.
and
Route characteristics with ratings from 1 to 6.

My original code is 0018101.

That means, if I change the original coding to 0016101 now, then the seatbelt warning indicator should be deactivated, correct?

It's important for me to know if that's true.
If I have made a mistake in my thinking, please correct me.

My question is, if the original number is 18, which is the sum of all the features I have, what does each of those 18 represent?

Because, let's say I already have the first three items of equipment.

+01 = Brake pad wear indicator active.
+02 = Seatbelt warning indicator active.
+04 = Windshield washer fluid level warning indicator active.

Then I arrive at a maximum value of 07. The "icon_smile_thumb_up.gif6 = Stufenheck" (split rear window) option is not available because it is only for VW Jetta models.
How can I find out what features are included behind that code, specifically, what all those 18 items represent?

I'm curious to see if anyone here knows the answer; it would be really great.
Sorry, I'm new to this.
geht nicht, gibt's nicht!!!

18 is 16 + 2.

So, "Jetta" and "Gurtbrüll" are encoded.

If it came with "Jetta" from the factory, just leave it as is.
Buckle up, so 16, and that's it.

Have fun with "unbuckled airbagging" icon_rolleyes.gif.

Hello Jochen,

text
the '?' are the positions affected by the specific instructions. The 'x' are any other positions, and '0' or '1' are fixed (= not changeable).

Quote:
My original code is 0018101.

That means, if I now modify the original coding to 0016101, then the seatbelt warning indicator should be deactivated, correct?

That is correct.

Quote:
The icon_smile_thumb_up.gif6 = spoiler, which is a rear spoiler, I can't have, because it's only for VW Jetta.

No one claims that everything is always complete, and the same applies to your Caddy. Sebastian is constantly expanding the information in the control unit descriptions (label files).

Based purely on the logic of the previous coding schemes, the "icon_smile_thumb_up.gif6" is more likely to be used for vehicle selection rather than a specific feature; anything else would be highly unlikely.

So, the "18" you mentioned results from 16 + 2, which corresponds to "split rear window" according to the description, and "active seatbelt warning indicator."
If you, for example, also had a windshield washer fluid warning indicator, the value would be 16 + 2 + 4 = 22.

The background of the number additions icon_smile_thumb_up.gif, +2, +4, etc., is the binary system, where individual bits, for example, represent specific components installed in the vehicle.
16 in binary => 10000
18 in binary => 10010
22 in binary => 10110

Details can be found below:
http://binaersystem.homeunix.org/

As long as you can use a calculator or do some mental math, you don't necessarily need to understand the information in the link. Just add up the values from the VCDS tooltips.

The long coding assistant 'LCode' by Niels Ezerman (included in the VCDS installation package) does this automatically, as the coding process would otherwise become quite cumbersome due to its extensive nature.

Best regards, Rainer.

I probably could have figured that out myself icon_lol.gif.

Thank you for the detailed description.

If I were to find a brake wear sensor on my Caddy's braking system, or if I were to install one retroactively, could I then code in the "+01" value, and would that display the information on the instrument cluster, correct?

Is that the same with the windshield washer fluid level warning indicator and the +04, right?

Are there any other features besides the 4 listed ones for the instrument cluster?

I don't understand what you mean.
I don't see anything about "LCode" anywhere on the installation CD.

I inserted the installation CD, and after selecting the language, everything proceeded automatically.

I currently have the following features under the "Programs" section:

Diesel Mechanic Diagnostic Forum.
Manual.
KDataScope 1.08
KPower 3.0.8
OBD Information.
Ross-Tech Wiki
VCDS-RKS Release 908.2
VC-Scope 1.9

LCode is started directly from VCDS; there's a button for this during long coding.

That means, if an LCode is present, the button only appears then?

The button is appropriately named "Start Coding Assistants," so just click it and you'll see.

For example, in the Caddy, the body control module (address 9) would need to use the long coding procedure.

To avoid having to guess, please just post the complete scan here.

Best regards, Rainer.
