Hello,

I have the following connections on my oil filter flange:

Oil pressure switch.
Oil supply line for turbocharger.
and another blind screw.

I think this threaded rod has an M10x1 thread. I bought an oil temperature sensor with an M10x1 thread from a hardware store for my Ford Galaxy (which is the engine model I have).

My question, purely out of interest:
Do I need to run a new cable for the VDO oil temperature gauge from the engine compartment, or is there already a cable present in the original wiring? What is a wiring harness intended for?
I actually have a similar cable with a ring terminal nearby that looks like it's specifically designed for that purpose.

If that's the case, which measurement block within VAG-COM would actually display the oil temperature? I couldn't find anything about that in the documentation!

Thank you.
Greetings.
Frebert.

Hello,

I'm not sure if that was available in the T3, but it might depend on the original engine and equipment.

It would be in measurement block 7 of your engine control unit, and in the instrument cluster (you can simply look at the label file in VCDS).
It is quite likely that, despite the addition of sensors, this dataset will only contain an empty field in the engine control unit.

So, if you're already retrofitting your own temperature sensor for the oil temperature, which isn't related to the diagnostic data, then you don't need to connect the sensor to the vehicle's wiring harness or control units.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,

Thank you for the information! I'll go ahead and query measurement block 7.

The wiring harness is likely the one from the donor vehicle (Ford Galaxy).
But since I don't have a MFA (Multi-Function Display) anyway, but rather an additional VDO display, it's probably easiest to just run a wire.
I was just curious.

Thank you.
Best regards,
Frebert.

I've now installed the sensor in the oil filter flange. Measurement block 7 (the second field from the left) is empty.
Okay, who wants to connect the VDO now?

Greetings.
