Key Fob Programming: How-To Guide

Hello, since I'm currently unable to proceed with my transmission problem due to a hand injury – I still need to get the RL – I want to program the 2 replacement keys I purchased. The VAG Com is installed, but (with a 20m cable to the Polo - no), I still need to find a laptop. However, in the search, I only found information for 6N radio keys (Michael II), not for Polo 9N standard keys.
Okay, here's my question: Is the pairing process the same? I don't have a radio remote control, but I have a WFS system. The keys fit, the engine starts, but then immediately shuts off. Is it correct to say that I need to pair the transponder?

What happens if I don't stay within the 15-second timeframe? Will the WFS lock?
Can I then also no longer start the car with my working key?

Das wird Dich nicht viel nützen. VAG ist (offiziell) dazu angehalten Wegfahrsperrendaten nicht an Kunden heraus zu geben. Ein Anlernen ist online machbar, auch da nur ohne einsehen des Login-Codes. Schaue doch mal ob Du evtl den Login-Anhänger noch am Bund dran hast. Von links:

If your dealer is nice, they might try to retrieve the login information via fax.

Hello everyone!

Now I'm facing the same problem: I'm too inexperienced to learn a third key for my T5 using VCDS.
The vehicle was handed over to me with 3 keys (2x remote keys, which function, and 1x a key without remote functionality, with the WFS symbol and the filament blinking). I never tried the third key. It fits mechanically, but it activates the WFS (Wireless Keyless System) and creates error entries in the engine control unit (ECU).
Two learned keys are stored in the AI.

In Sebastian's picture, you can see the black plastic tag. Mine, on the other hand, has a black sticker on one side instead of a barcode, with the last 7 digits of the VIN. On the other side, like in the picture on the left, I have a white sticker with 2 digits at the top and 5 digits below. The area on the right (the scratch-off section) is completely missing from mine, and it doesn't appear to have been scratched off.
If I try the first sequence of digits (padded with leading zeros) as a login, a brief connection interruption occurs, followed by the VCDS message "Login lost due to connection interruption!" (or similar). The same thing happens with the second 5-digit sequence.

"Do I need to request the login online from VW? Did the previous owner remove the scratch-off login, or was that the status when the car was delivered in 2004? How is it possible that a car is delivered with 3 keys, but only 2 are programmed?"

To the best of my knowledge, the scratch-off login system has been discontinued for a very long time, at least since Immo3, which would be around 2001/2002.

Only VW tools or specialized tools will help with that. Please contact me privately if you need more information.

I thought that for vehicles where there is no "key ring" included, the login would have to be requested online, but as they say, you never stop learning .

"In the past, VAG (Volkswagen Group) could send a fax with the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), and 15 minutes later, a fax would be returned with the PIN (Personal Identification Number). This PIN, in conjunction with the dealer and importer number, was then valid for 24 hours. Later, Audi switched to an online query system using a diagnostic tool, where the tool itself retrieves the VIN from the control unit and connects to the network. VW also adopted this system later (around 2004/2005), and since then, fax requests have been discontinued."

The pin is also no longer visible when using the tester to connect to it, as previously mentioned.

There are specialized tools that can read the PIN from the control unit via the OBD socket, and this applies to virtually all VAG vehicles. These tools can also be used to program keys via VCDS. In some cases, it is also possible to remove the control units/tachometers and send them in for this purpose.
