Nail Problems in 1.6 TDI Engines: Still an Issue?

A customer is experiencing excessive engine knocking at low RPMs with their 1.6 TDI CAY*, which has only 60,000 km (approximately 37,000 miles) on it.

Was was there, wasn't there? I vaguely remember a case in the forum, but I can't find it. Is it a software problem with the engine control unit?

Perform software updates and adapt to small-scale production.
At the end of this process, the tester will tell you whether any injectors need to be replaced, and if so, which ones.

Can I read the injector values myself?

Is the software update for VW vehicles already known, or do you need to inquire about it?
We only had a software update done because of the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).

I believe you can read data yourself, as far as I know, but you've never tried it before.
The original tester performs some calculations in the background and then suggests whether or not an injector replacement is necessary. If you knew the threshold values, it would certainly also be possible to do this with VCDS.

That was me!
Picked it up fresh from WOB and was making a racket all the way home.

The amusing thing was that in a German TV crime show ("ARD Tatort"), the Passat B7 Bluemotion (also a CAYC) had the exact same starting problem as the one described.

I wanted to provide an update. We had a software update installed, but it didn't improve anything. Then, an injector test was performed, and all 4 injectors were replaced at approximately 71,000 km.

Thank you for the feedback. Hopefully, the new injectors will last longer!
