Hello fellow diesel mechanics,
My VCDS is on its way via postal service, and I am looking forward to participating in this informative forum. icon_smile_thumb_up.gif

My name is Ralf, I'm in my mid-50s, and I'm a trained automotive mechanic. I learned the trade when cars still had carburetors and distributor injection pumps. However, like many of my generation, I moved to the industry shortly after completing my apprenticeship and have been working as a CNC programmer and setup operator for a long time.

I never buy brand new cars; I prefer relatively young, used vehicles that have been driven long distances.

My fleet consists of my Golf V Variant 1.9 TDi, which I've now driven for over 300,000 kilometers, and which I still don't want to part with. It just keeps running, and it brings me joy every day!

My wife drives a Sharan II 2.0 TDI, which serves as our family's main vehicle for all transportation needs.
The car currently has 170,000 kilometers on the odometer and is expected to keep running for quite some time.

We are both commuters and travel an average of 30,000 kilometers per year.

Since I'm responsible for maintaining both cars myself, it's always a challenge for me to understand the modern technology and to identify any problems that may arise.

I hope to be able to contribute my experiences here and learn a lot more.

VCDS is definitely a must-have for someone like me, but please don't ask me how I managed before! Every person has a piece of a dark past! icon_wink.gif

Regards,
Ralf.

Hello!

I'd also like to warmly welcome you.
People with good mechanical knowledge and years of professional experience are always needed here from time to time.
Everyone has experienced a lot, and perhaps learned the most amazing tricks from the experienced craftsmen, tricks that are slowly fading into oblivion.

I have a similar mindset when it comes to buying private cars.
Grüße, Steffen!
