CFFB Shakes in Cold Weather

Hello everyone,
I have a Golf 6 with the 2.0 TDI CFFB engine.
According to the owner, the engine rattles loudly in the morning when it's cold. After a while, the rattling stops, and it runs normally.
At 10,000 km, this phenomenon also occurred, and as a result, injector 3 was replaced by a workshop.

Here's the log data from this morning's test drive. As usual, the car seemed to be running normally. However, the fuel injection deviation in cylinder 2 is somewhat concerning.

I have also read out and attached the rail pressure calibration points for the injectors.

Can the values indicate whether the problem might be caused by an injector?

It is noticeable that two cylinders have a deviation of more than 2 mg/h during idle speed control, while the rail pressure decreases slightly at the same time.

Here's the translation:

When accelerating at full throttle for several seconds at high RPMs, does the car run with full power without any hesitation or jerking?

Perhaps something is broken somewhere, maybe a plastic part near the fuel lines? The connectors/cables at the pressure regulator valve are okay, and there are also no metal shavings inside the diesel filter (from the high-pressure pump)?

Hi,
The idle stabilization system (which is an injection quantity correction for individual cylinders to ensure a smooth idle) only works at idle speeds up to approximately 1100 RPM. Therefore, recording data while accelerating or decelerating is pointless. It's better to record data in separate sections, both when the engine is cold and when it's warm, and to include the coolant temperature readings.

I can rule out air leaks. All connections are sealed.
Going full throttle at high speed is perfectly fine.

There were actually very tiny, gold-colored shavings in the diesel filter.
The owner insists on a new injector because he is convinced, as was the case last time, that the problem lies with it.

I'm doing another log analysis, and I find the quantity deviation of over 3mg/H from cylinder 2 quite strange. Especially since it occurs multiple times in the range of 1400-1500 revolutions.
The temperature was 74°C, which I unfortunately forgot to record.

Please remember that positive LLR values indicate that too little fuel is being injected.
So, cylinder 2 is delivering too little, and cylinder 3 is delivering too much.

What is the cause of the reduced output from cylinder 2 or the "misfire" in cylinder 3? That's a good question. What's noticeable is that it only occurs within a specific RPM range in the logs.

Are the connectors/cables on the injectors securely attached and undamaged?

Can the behavior be reproduced by bringing the engine to the specified RPM range? Perhaps someone could observe the engine while it's running to see if anything is vibrating or rubbing.

If the customer absolutely wants the injector replaced, then go ahead and do it. If it wasn't the injector, then he'll just have paid for nothing. }

While I don't want to start a fundamental discussion about fuel injection quantity correction, measurements taken with the accelerator pedal pressed or moving are meaningless and the resulting numbers are random.
The correction function only works intentionally when the engine is regulated to a constant speed, i.e., in idle mode. If the accelerator pedal is in a different position, the desired torque (fuel injection amount) is regulated. However, there is no adjustment for a constant torque in this case. This would only be possible if the engine control unit (ECU) regularly injected specific amounts of fuel and determined the corresponding correction values. This is similar to how the shift time corrections (rail pressure calibration) are determined in boost mode. However, to my knowledge, this does not exist, but I am happy to be enlightened.
The only notable thing is that cylinder two is the only one showing positive values during the rail pressure calibration.

In electronically controlled diesel engines (EDC) with a distributor injection pump, the upper speed limit of the low-load range (LLR) was limited by the inertia of the quantity control ring in the electronic control unit (ECU). Because each cylinder required its own specific position, a physical limitation arose at this point due to the control loop.

This does not apply to PD and CR systems. In general, the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) can modify the injection timing at almost any point.

At least with EDC17, there are speed and quantity ranges within which the LLR (Low-Pressure Fuel Rail) is active. First, let's consider the engine's idle state.

However, since the parameters are freely adjustable, I can't tell you offhand at what engine speed and fuel injection volume the quantity compensation no longer takes place.

I could look up the information in a corresponding dataset for an engine control unit, but then it would be late afternoon.

I think it will be somewhere below 2000 rpm.

It would be interesting to know on what basis an EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) determines the optimal setting beyond the idle state. In idle, the control system operates dynamically. However, in normal operation and beyond, in addition to the motor's torque, there are several external parameters that are difficult or impossible to control, even with a closed-loop control system. Perhaps the system calculates the optimal setting based on the last known idle values? In contrast, the injector quantity adjustment and the zero-quantity correction seem straightforward.

The vehicle has been running smoothly for over a week now.

The injector on cylinder 2 was replaced with a new one from Bosch. The injector from the first cylinder was ultrasonically cleaned, as it had to be removed anyway to replace the seals.
