Hi,
I only drove for 3 minutes to get some money. Then I got in the car and drove off again to pick up some food.
Suddenly, for no apparent reason, the engine started misfiring, emitting white smoke, running very rough like it was only on three cylinders, and slowly increasing in RPM. I turned it off and restarted it, but it was still bad. Still the same nonsense and smoke.

I was already thinking that the timing belt had skipped a tooth.
However, that's not the case after I inspected it on the lift.
Then, together with a colleague, I manually rotated the engine several times. Everything seemed normal during this process; there were no metallic noises or anything unusual.
Okay, I thought. Let's test it again. Started the engine. It runs as if nothing happened.
What could that be?

Error memory is empty.
I'm at a loss.

Sure, here's the translation:

"Possibly useful information:"
Timing belt changed 2500 km ago.
Maintenance intervals have been strictly adhered to.
Volkswagen Golf 4, manufactured in 1998, 1.9 TDI engine, 81 kW.
147,000 km.
ICD-10: Acute Heart Failure.

Best, Sascha.

P.S.: The power steering reservoir was removed during the timing belt replacement and therefore refilled.
This one overflowed as well.

Okay,
We arrived home safely without any problems.
I once tried to drain the diesel fuel filter.
Weird, no water...

Then I also checked the injection timing.
is almost okay.
I'm not sure if there's anything else I should adjust.
What do you think?

See image.

The start of the spray is fine; I wouldn't change anything there; nothing at all.
When you described the problem, I initially thought it might be related to misaligned valve timing, such as what could happen with a loose pulley or a loose central nut. But the graph actually suggests the opposite.

Did you fill up with water and therefore expect some? icon_razz.gif
A small amount of water that accumulates at the bottom of the DieFi container can escape unnoticed when the container is emptied.

Okay, then I'm relieved for now.
Let's just keep going like nothing happened.

I just remembered something:
What must it have looked like when I rolled into the drive-in with my smoking exhaust?

Regards,
Sascha.

Why would you set an AHF (air handling unit) according to the AHU diagram?

I'm not sure, but the diagrams and the resulting accuracy of the settings may not necessarily match, especially since the AHU has 90 horsepower and the AHF has 110 horsepower, and therefore they have different injectors... they also have different fuel injection pumps.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

@DM.
I thought someone would notice.
Unfortunately, I don't have the latest software on my laptop.
That's why the diagram isn't entirely accurate.
Rainer once posted something of his online.
I also included the values there for comparison.
It looks the same in terms of spacing.

Best regards,
