I'm planning to replace the gasoline engine (ABS motor, 90 hp) in my Golf III with a TDI engine (1Z). My problem is that I am only allowed to replace the engine itself (for tax reasons, I live in Denmark) . Does anyone know if the 90 hp TDI can be connected to a transmission from the 90 hp gasoline engine? The gasoline engine has a mechanical clutch (210mm). Can the mechanics handle the larger clutch of the TDI, or will I have to replace the clutch (or switch to hydraulic actuation)?
The clutch actuation of the Golf transmission works completely differently. The release bearing is not located in the bell housing, but at the other end of the transmission and presses on a rod, which in turn presses on the pressure plate. The construction of the clutch itself is also 'reversed.' The only option would be to install a reinforced clutch and use the starter motor from the 1.9 TDI engine, although I'm not sure if it will fit the flywheel's teeth. Also, the transmission ratio is much too short. The gasoline engine reaches approximately 180 km/h at 6000 rpm, while the TDI only reaches about 120 km/h at its maximum speed of around 4200 rpm. Therefore, normal driving is impossible.

It doesn't sound like there's a possibility . Can't I attach the flywheel, including the clutch from the ABS motor, directly to the TDI crankshaft?
