It's smoking like crazy, even when idling.
The whole story is quite clear.
Cold or hot, always.
No oil in the water, and vice versa.
Motor 170000km. LD auch OK. No error.
gespeichert. AFN MKB. Performance is also available there.
The top of the head is dry on the outside.

Hmmm? H-P

PS: Diesel filter and air filter replaced, injection timing is correct.
AGR (Abgasrückführung) off, oil consumption approximately 1 liter per 4000 km.
No water consumption.

While I don't have much experience troubleshooting engine problems, the oil consumption would definitely be a major concern for me.
For example, I can get about 15,000 km with roughly 1 liter of topping up.

Regards,

Haggis.

Hi,

"So, the oil consumption wouldn't particularly worry me given the mileage! I consider 0.25 liters per 1000 km to be normal. Volkswagen still uses a wear value of 1 to 1.5 liters per 1000 km."

If you don't have a water separator and the injection timing is correct, then there's not much else that could be the problem.
Let's have the fuel injectors checked for their spray pattern and sealing. If one or more injectors are dripping, it can cause a thick white cloud of unburned diesel. By the way, you should also be able to smell that cloud.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the answers. Oil consumption doesn't bother me at all.
I share the same concerns as Bertil.

The whole situation is pretty awful.
Fuel injectors? Mine are probably getting new ones from Bosch soon.
Field service (no further details). Let's see if that resolves the issue.

I've also noticed something else: When it's idling, it's emitting white smoke.
Then I revved the engine up to its maximum RPM two or three times.
Is the smoking gone, or is it better now?

Best regards, H-P.

PS: I was on the train today, performance was okay, and the maximum speed was almost the same.
only slightly smaller (think about the weather).

Hello, my German is not very good. I'm from South Africa. Please check your thermostat.
White smoke indicates a cold-running engine. I agree with others that your oil consumption is not a problem. Blue smoke indicates oil burning.
Best regards,
Werner

These are either pre-manufactured nozzles and/or combustion chambers that are too cold. Increasing the speed warms them up, which allows the fuel to burn more efficiently.
I agree with Werner; checking the thermostat is a common issue with VAG diesel engines.

Hi,
The injectors are a possibility. The temperature, however, is unlikely to be the issue. After all, our TDI engines manage a regular cold start without any smoke. As is well known, the glow plugs only come on when it's "really" cold.
