Golf III AFN: Power Loss Troubleshooting

Hello.

Since my thread was unfortunately locked (it mentioned performance issues, but not exactly like mine!), I'm writing again and providing more details:


I have a Volkswagen Golf with a 110 HP TDI engine. It's been smoking heavily for some time now, and after a while, it suddenly loses power as if the electronic control system is reducing it. Then, it stops smoking too.
If you turn the ignition off and on again, it regains power and starts smoking again, but only for a short time, until power is demanded, such as when overtaking or accelerating.

The LLM is fine.

VW detected an intermittent error related to the intake manifold pressure during diagnostics.
'Does anyone have more information about this error? Has anyone encountered it before, and what turned out to be the problem?'

I'm at a loss as to what might be causing this problem. Does anyone else have experience with something similar, or does anyone have any advice?

PS: @ Rainer K.: The hoses of the system are fine. What could be wrong with the EGR valve?
Bei VW sagte man mir irgendwelche Regelventile können defekt sein? Probably?

There is more than enough information available about this error (forums, error databases, technical articles, etc.).
You can find plenty of information here about the "ignition on/off" issue as well.

Reason for closure: Data available, but no desire to search.
