Hello.
I'm having a problem, can anyone help me?
My Audi A3 1.9 TDI 90 hp, manufactured in 1996, keeps stalling while driving. It stalls every 2 minutes when cold, and at longer intervals when warm. I've noticed a loss of power, especially on the highway. The descriptions in the posts about the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) seem to fit my problem. I removed the MAF sensor because mine has a connector with 6 pins, where two are opposite each other, while the Bosch one has the pins in a row. I also read somewhere that you can verschandeln it. When I removed it, I noticed that it's a Pierburg unit. After reading the posts about MAF sensors here, I thought it was just an alternative to the Bosch one, but I didn't think it would be installed from the factory. Just a little more information.'The problem has become more pronounced. However, when I enter my vehicle data into the Bosch system, I receive a different part number than the one listed on the Pierburg part.' And my large language model (LLM) cannot be removed from the enclosure. Does that mean it doesn't matter which one I install? And which numbers do I need to pay attention to?
Best regards.

Hello,
The search function is your friend. I suspect it's relay 109, which controls the power supply to the engine management system.
Regarding the hot-wire mass airflow sensor: since you, like me, have a "one-piece" design -> you're out of luck.
The Bosch and VAG part numbers are printed on the HFM.
I wouldn't replace the HFM (High-Frequency Module) without a measurement test using a diagnostic device; it would just be an expensive experiment.
Have you already read the error codes? Diesel filter OK, no air bubbles in the fuel supply line to the injection pump?
Best regards, Rainer. |

'I just replaced the filter, and I can't see any bubbles with the engine running. Also, there are no error codes displayed in the diagnostic system. It started happening sporadically, maybe once or twice a month, and I connected it to a diagnostic tool, but there were no errors. However, now it's happening 5-6 times per hour, and I haven't had it checked since. I'm from the Saarland region, and not every small town has a diagnostic tool available. It's really annoying to have to stop every 5 kilometers and wait 3 minutes for it to start again. I was thinking about making my own connector, but there are so many different definitions out there that can connect to various vehicles. Is there anything universal? And I'm not sure what this connector does, even when I look on eBay.' |

'Where can I find relay 109, or where can I find an overview of all the relays? Can someone give me a link?'
Thank you for the tips. |

Hello,
You need to remove the lower dashboard panel on the driver's side.
If you don't miss any screws, everything goes smoothly (so please don't use excessive force).
Best regards, Rainer. |
