Have a nice day.

First of all, I'm new to this forum and would like to thank everyone.
who made this happen / who brought this to life.

Okay, so now to my question?
Kia Carnival CDI, manufactured in 2003.
ISO protocol 9141 pin assignment: 4-5-7-15-16.
What interfaces and software can be used to read data from a vehicle?
Does their interface support this protocol?
What are your experiences?

I would be very grateful for any response, as the repair shop is simply becoming too expensive in the long run.

This is a common problem with those supposedly cheap vehicles from the Far East.

It's difficult to obtain information, and some parts are very expensive to get, often unavailable altogether after 10 years, which limits the resale value and thus the price per kilogram.

And as an employee of a German automotive manufacturer, I am inclined to write:

Try it on some Korean websites!

Hello Walter.

You could have saved yourself the trouble with that comment because it's just nonsensical babble.
By the way, I also have a Mercedes-Benz V-Class, and it's far superior to the Kia.
It's best to avoid being a newbie in a forum you don't know, especially since people tend to be quick to criticize or harass someone right from their first post, regardless of the forum's culture.
because that demonstrates a great lack of competence.

and otherwise, please read the questions carefully before answering.

Dear Mr. Rain,

Unfortunately, the first part of Walter's statement is correct. Software like VAGCOM will only be available for your car if it's widely used. Unfortunately, Germany (D) doesn't fall into that category.
I assume that the car is OBD2 compatible; then, the Vehicle Explorer, in conjunction with an OBD interface, will perform the most important functions.
Unfortunately, a proper engine diagnosis is not possible with this method.

The second part is his personal opinion, and he's entitled to express it like that. However, there's no reason to react so strongly to it.
Gruß Bertil

Hello,

I tried to phrase it politely, but I earn my living in the German/European automotive industry, and it's become known that I know a bit about it.

'Now I'm constantly being asked by people I've only met twice in my life what could be wrong with their 'rice cookers' (referring to their cars), because the small company they bought them from cheaply doesn't know anything about them. And when I truthfully answer that I don't know anything about these cars, I'm implicitly being accused of unwillingness and a lack of helpfulness.'

I've been thinking about telling everyone that I only work as a janitor from now on.

Perhaps now someone will understand the second part of my response, coming from someone who actively participated in relocating order volumes exceeding €50 million from Germany to countries within and outside Europe over the past four years. I'm being paid to undermine my own company!

And one more thing - and I mean this completely neutrally:
Like all East Asian brands, Kia has a good customer service hotline because the workshops in East Asia don't have the same level of training as those here, and many things are solved differently there.
The phone number in Korea can only be found online on the Korean website, and then you'll need someone who speaks Korean to ask the right questions and accurately translate the answer. (No information will be provided in English!)
We have a colleague here from Osaka who specializes in Japanese cars, and the workshops in Germany are generally better for those anyway.

And before anyone accuses me of nationalism: In Korea (and this applies to other countries in East Asia), if someone drives a Mercedes or a large BMW, they are allowed to do so because it's a sign that they have achieved something and earned good money. If they were to drive a Polo or something similar, they would be harming the local economy because they could just as easily buy a Korean car. They would be looked down upon by their colleagues, and it could cost them their job in the Korean automotive industry. Just imagine if that happened here!

Walter.

Hello,

They at least have the correct translation here. KIA = Killing In Action.

Okay, enough joking around. As Walter correctly pointed out, cars from East Asia can become very expensive once the initial warranty period is over. Spare parts are not available at junkyards and are not stocked anywhere in Europe. A policy of frequent model changes only exacerbates this problem. However, these parts are usually obtainable by sea freight within 3-6 weeks, but at an exorbitant price. My colleague managed to get his automatic transmission fixed after 8 months for his Honda Shuttle (due to a broken shaft). Part of the problem was the complete incompetence of the workshop (not exclusively a problem with East Asian cars, as many here have experienced), and the importer's lack of knowledge about the repair shop that he himself had authorized.

Best regards,
