I've heard of it.

But I preferred to ease my conscience by using "brand-name" oil.

If they weren't lying about the VW standards, then it should be sufficient for VP-TDIs.

For PD, this means absolutely nothing!

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

Hello,

Poweroil also offers an oil specifically for diesel engines, available at Marktkauf under their 'Gut&Billig' brand, with the specification 5W-40 and meeting the VW standard 505.01.

5 liters for €29.99.

The bottle says 'approved by VW.' I don't believe that the Marktkauf corporation would sell a product under its name that advertises being 'approved by VW' but is not officially approved.

I suspect that behind the 'Poweroil' brand there are other brands and customers, meaning it's likely a private label product from a well-known manufacturer.

I've used it myself in my AJM and I don't notice any difference compared to branded oils.

I hope you also have analyses of the 'gut&billig' supermarket products? In fully synthetic oils, an extremely high content of mineral components was detected. This was found in a 10w40 fully synthetic oil with the specification 505.00, and that makes me wonder! Why should it be different with the PD oils?

Where can I read such test reports or analyses? Do you have anything for me icon_wink.gif?

10W-40 is definitely not a full synthetic oil; it's always a semi-synthetic or hydrocracked oil, which means it's a refined mineral oil (by the way, the 5W-40 PD oil with specification 505.01 is also only semi-synthetic or hydrocracked).

That's right! But it says 'full synthetic' on the label.

Where can I find the test report? I don't remember! But I'm looking for it.

@ Thomas K.

Exactly, because I was already having trouble finding a fully synthetic 5W-40 50500 oil.

Almost all fully synthetic oils are now designated as "0W" oils.

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

Hello,

Yes, that's true; there are fewer and fewer genuine full synthetic oils available. Or perhaps they have all been misleading us with their advertising, or maybe a clear standard has been introduced for this icon_confused.gif.

'By the way:'
You can find a good 5W-40 hydrocracked oil at the Praktiker hardware store for €10.95 for a 5-liter container. The brand is High Star. The packaging even lists specific approvals according to VW 505.00, 502.00, Porsche, BMW Longlife98, MB 229, etc.
You can find this information in the fine print. The manufacturer is Addinol Leuna. They even supply Volkswagen with this product for initial filling at the factory.
I've been using this for 3 years in my wife's Peugeot 206 --> it's excellent.

Hello again,

I was just browsing their website a little bit. There isn't much to find.

Basically, they don't do anything different from companies like Castrol; they buy oil from refineries and have it filled directly into their bottles. They don't manufacture anything themselves. It's possible that, for example, their 5W-40 oil is identical to a Castrol oil.

Hello,

I use fully synthetic 5W40 engine oil from the Globus MultiLub house brand, and I've been using it for almost 100,000 kilometers. So far, everything has been great. Visually, everything looks verschandeln under the valve cover.

Okay, the 5-liter container is on sale for €20, normally it costs €30.

'That's exactly what I use! It costs me €17.95 when it's on sale and €19.95 normally. I bought it from ZACK, not Globus. My old car, a 1Z, has been running with this product for about 150,000 km without any issues or problems!'

Hello,

For example, Valvoline SynPro 5W-40 or Pentosin Pentosynth 5W-40.

Regards,

Tobias.

P.S.: I hope that these oils do not contain any mineral components.

hello tobias,

No, that wasn't it, because this is a partially synthetic product, not a fully synthetic one. I'm still searching and hope to find it!

Post21-03-2004, 11:55    Subject: Poweroil: High-Performance Motor Oil Quote

hello

Yesterday, I couldn't find any oil for my AJM-PD engine, manufactured in 2001 (not longlife), that meets the 505.01 standard at Praktiker.
I just bought the most expensive Castrol oil (specifications 50500 and 50200), specifically the Race 0-W40 and Formula RS, which is fully synthetic. It cost €51, but with a 20% discount because everything is currently on sale.

Is that okay?

Best regards,

If it doesn't meet the norm 50501 standard (i.e., without the longlife specification), I wouldn't use it, no matter how cheap it is. The 50500 oil can't withstand the usual pressure differences between the engine and the particulate filter element in a diesel particulate filter (DPF) system. It's difficult to find oils specifically for DPF systems at hardware stores. And even when you do find them, they are often partially synthetic. Take a look at www.reifendirekt.de; they have DPF oils at relatively good prices.
