Timing Belt Kit: Brands & Manufacturers

I need to get the timing belt replaced soon.
I need a new sentence.

My old VAG set has:
Tensioner from LITENS Canada.
INA Germany roller bearing.
Timing belt? Supposedly GATES.

In Rainer's Conti system, the tensioning roller failed prematurely.
Is this an exception or the rule?
Who still uses Contisatz tires? They're quite cheap at E***, at 49 euros.

Which roller manufacturers, besides LITENS, are suppliers to VAG, or which other manufacturers can you recommend?
(Ruville, Optimal kG, Quinton Hazel, Meyle, SWAG, Febi Bilstein, MKG)???

The tensioner is very important to me.

Has anyone installed a GATES timing belt kit, and what brand is on the tensioner pulley?

I simply got the whole thing from VW. With the financing, it wasn't that expensive, and I felt quite secure in case something didn't fit.
Besides, I believe I can cause more trouble for my local VW dealer than I ever could for some online parts reseller.

I am currently experiencing this with a memory card that I probably should have bought locally at the Nokia store .
The online seller (not e*** but memory-world.de) has the defective product and my money, and is no longer responding.
I would have visited the local store every single day.

To my knowledge, Litens is the only manufacturer that produces this specific type of component.
I have always found the Litens roll inside the packaging so far.



Be careful if the manufacturer is not indicated on the roll!

I completely agree. I wouldn't use extremely cheap products from 3 2 1 in such important areas. Unfortunately, alongside stolen parts and counterfeit goods, there are only a few reputable offers left.

I tend to trust VW's quality control more when it comes to parts like that. The thread about Rainer's disassembled roller also only leads to one conclusion: buy the original part.
Furthermore, it's likely that only Volkswagen itself is currently up-to-date regarding the ZR tooth flank profile, which has been modified several times.

While my experiences with timing belts are a bit older (from 1998-99), I'm happy to share them.
We set up several timing belt test benches at the ITV (Institute for Technical Combustion, University of Hanover) and conducted endurance tests for Volkswagen.
Modified ESP with a fixed, increased injection quantity, ESP test oil, endurance tests, torque measurements, etc.
VP engines used belts from Conti, Gates, and Dyco.
Conclusion: Conti is the best; Gates is similar, but slightly worse; other manufacturers were not recommended at that time.
We did not systematically test the tension rollers; we always used the tension rollers provided by VW. The part number matched the serial number, so they were the original tension rollers that were installed.
Whether it's superstition or not, I've been using exclusively Conti belts ever since.

Contitech kits primarily include tensioner pulleys with VW ET (Electronic Teile Catalogue) numbers.

In my area of work, I repair electric motors. Most often, we only replace the bearings. These motors drive rollers, fans, etc. continuously, using V-belts and toothed belts.
The timing belts of individual manufacturers always reach the specified service life, but Continental products perform better when the belts are contaminated with oil or grease, or when they wear unevenly.

In my Golf, I only use Conti timing belts and idler pulleys from VAG or SKF.
