Hello,
Since my exhaust tip is almost worn out, I'd like to modify it a bit while I'm at it, but I'm still a little unsure.
Because I thought I could modify the exhaust system to allow for approximately 20% more exhaust flow, so I was considering installing a slightly larger piping.
I was thinking that increasing the boost pressure by about 30% might positively affect the 'cross-sectional area increase' in relation to power and fuel consumption.
Or what????
Best regards. |

I have a 1Z exhaust hanging under my G3 AFN. It is 2 mm smaller in diameter than the original AFN.
So far, I have not been able to detect any performance degradation compared to an original AFN. Neither objectively nor subjectively.
So, I don't expect to see a positive reaction when the diameter of the tube is increased. |

Hmmm...
An increase in the cross-sectional area would have to be followed by a decrease in back pressure, which would mean that the turbocharger would spool up sooner and the engine would produce more exhaust gases. On the other hand, an exhaust system is always a vibrating structure. If the cross-sectional area increases while the length remains the same, then the volume also increases, which would cause the resonance frequencies to shift downwards.
It wasn't easy to predict what the outcome would be. However, it would definitely affect the engine's performance curve. The question is, whether it will be for the better or for the worse.
Well, practice makes perfect... |

I've already tried several variations, for example, emptying the entire exhaust system, using a straight pipe, and installing a Remus duplex exhaust.
In my opinion, you don't notice any performance increase; the only thing that changes is the sound of the exhaust, which is sometimes a bit duller and sometimes a bit louder. |
