Hello,
I have a question. I have a Volkswagen Golf III TDI with a 1Z engine, and I have a new engine control unit (ECU) that I would like to install in the vehicle.
I have the option of borrowing a VAG-Com from an acquaintance or doing it together with him.
However, he has only used it so far to read the error codes, and therefore he doesn't feel comfortable using it for anything else.
Could someone please give me a quick guide on what I need to do here? Or would it be better to have it done at a VW service center?
Sure, no problem. Here's the translation:
'Thank you in advance.'
Oliver.

The engine control unit numbers and the year of manufacture would be helpful.
If he already has an immobilizer, it must be adapted to the control unit. Search: immobilizer (immobilizer) and adaptation.
It should also be findable in the relevant articles.

It depends...
Based on the question, it seems there's a possibility that neither of you are in the best shape... just to be on the safe side... would a workshop be a better option?
If you feel confident enough: it depends on a few things, such as the presence of a WFS. If a WFS is not available, simply connect the new device and that should be it.
If a WFS (Web Feature Service) is available, some minor adjustments may be necessary. Please refer to the documentation on the DRV (presumably a company or product) website for details. It contains helpful descriptions that should guide you through the necessary adjustments.
What is the purpose of the STG exchange? Is the old one defective?

Okay, thanks. Where can I find the m f t website?
Well, as I mentioned before regarding engines, I'm having a problem with a newly installed complete engine. Since my original engine also failed at 197,000 km, and I've already replaced the turbo and everything else, I'm naturally wondering what other potential issues could arise with the engine.
Since I have a control unit from a similar scrapped vehicle available, I would like to replace it. It's just lying around, and according to VW and the part number, it's a compatible replacement.
Everything else has been replaced with the new complete engine (including the EP, injectors, glow plugs, oil pump, etc.).
And after 28,000 km, it seems to be failing again, and it's showing me this with a slightly oily rear windshield.

Thank you very much. I found it.
I guess I have a WFS of the 2nd generation installed. I always thought you needed some kind of code for that, which only VW can calculate. But according to the description, it's just a read and a write operation.
Does this also apply to used control units, or only to new ones?

This refers to the 3rd generation of WFS (Web Feature Server).

With WFS2, it doesn't matter if it's new or used.
When buying a WFS3, make sure to check whether it's new or used.

This is for the 3rd generation of WFS. |
... really?
Yes, of course, Jörg is right.
There is absolutely no way to change the control unit (STG) in WGS3 without resorting to the services of the "friendly" ones. Gruß Bertil

Thank you very much to everyone involved.
It worked perfectly.
However, I was surprised to find oil in the pressure line from the vacuum bridge to the control unit. That would prevent it from providing accurate readings.
I replaced the hose, but the intake manifold itself is also a bit oily. Is that normal?

Yes, that's normal. It's coming from the crankcase ventilation system (KGE), which connects between the air filter and the turbocharger.

..I'm bringing this topic up again because yesterday I replaced the steering control module (SCM) for the second time, both times with a first or second-generation unit. Both times, I tried to clear the adaptation values or read channel 00 using the current VCDS software, but without success. It worked without any problems with the 1551 interface.
I used the shareware version, and according to the manual, it shouldn't have any limitations regarding customization. So why isn't it working?
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

Because it doesn't work with the shareware:

Please specify which manual (i.e., from which distributor) this information comes from, to avoid any misleading impressions. According to my manual, specifically the one from Kaufmann KFZ-Diagnosesysteme, there is absolutely nothing of the sort stated or promised.
That an adaptation can only be the licensed version is stated, among other things, in the description of the kit .
