Does the Passat TDI, MKB 1Z, have an OBD2 interface?

Does my Passat from the year 1994 with engine code 1Z have an OBD2 interface?
I heard that it doesn't have one. Then I wonder what that connector is to the right of the steering wheel? It even has pins like an OBD2 port.

Sure, perhaps we should add that. While the diagnosis is performed via an OBD2 connector (specifically a 2x2 connector), it doesn't support the OBD2 protocol itself.

Okay. But for clarity: VAG-COM uses the VAG protocols anyway, not OBD2.
