Hello.
I know that biodiesel has been discussed quite frequently here before.
In this context, there was also a lot of discussion about the addition of vegetable oil (from stores like ALDI and LIDL).
I'm also considering adding some vegetable oil to the diesel fuel.
But this is not for cost-saving reasons, but simply to make the engine run more smoothly.
Can you tell me at what percentage of additive concentration this effect occurs?
Is there anything else I should be aware of?
Regards... JL

(1) Surely, an ALH (Audi Longitudinal Hydraulic) should be relatively quiet (do you want me to listen to yours?).
(2) Aldi POEL is far too expensive and causes a lot of waste - try to get large canisters from an oil mill instead (Odel Altpoel at the disposal company - we get it there for free for our BUS .
BTW, are you sure everything is okay with the engine and that it's not too loud due to a defect?
RME costs only slightly more than Aldi OEL (Globus HOM 74.9) and also makes the engine quieter.

Hello again.
So, everything is fine with the engine.
I just wanted to try it out because it was always mentioned.
The addition is intended to make the engine run more smoothly and consistently.
So, it's really not about saving 10 cents more or less.
I was thinking of an addition of approximately 10-15%.
Is that okay, or does it not make sense yet?
JL

So far, I have only used 100% diesel fuel, and once I used a mixture that was approximately 50/50 diesel and RME.
You could already tell, at 50%, by the sound of the combustion and the smell of the exhaust fumes .
10% is probably a bit too low.
If you really want to run "Piesel" (a mixture of POEL and diesel), first pour in the oil, then add the diesel on top. Afterwards, it's a good idea to drive around a bit so that the mixture blends well.
Mixing fuel OUTSIDE of the vehicle's fuel tank is tax evasion!

@dieselmartin,
If you don't sell the mixed juice as pure diesel, there's no problem. There's a statement from the Federal Ministry stating that this is tax-compliant because mineral oil tax is not levied on biofuels, and value-added tax (VAT) will be paid.
@0815 Just try it - let some air out of the tires and then start shooting. It's best to do it in a parking lot. Then you'll have a bunch of people around to comment (Is that allowed? Will that work? blah blah...).
Oil from the oil mill, especially rapeseed oil, is not suitable! It's as thick as honey; even with 10% less, it's too much. The cheap oil is a mixture of who-knows-what and from the nth pressing. This stuff is relatively thin. You absolutely should have a pre-filter installed (see articles by Ulf and me).
Given the current outside temperature, you can start with a mixture of around 20% [additive] and see how it goes. If you think it's too much, just add more diesel.
It gets quieter starting around 20% - before that, you don't really notice much of a difference.

Is there anyone here who regularly uses this type of fuel mixture (during the summer)?

We are permanently using a VW BUS JX, which is 100% powered by AltPoel energy, but with a dual-tank system and a heat exchanger.
We filter the diesel fuel with a 5-micron and a 1-micron filter, and there's an additional diesel filter installed in the bus.
Start on diesel, then switch to petrol and drive the remaining kilometers using petrol. Switch back to diesel shortly before the finish line.
I have pictures at home - if anyone wants to see them.

Currently, I'm driving a Passat PD with 130 horsepower, and I can easily achieve a 50:50 fuel economy ratio (city vs. highway) without any modifications.
'I have a winter-prepped A4 110hp, modified with a second fuel tank, a heat exchanger, and an electric heater, all 100% functional. However, I can't yet comment on the winter performance with everything fully installed, as I've only recently completed the modifications.'

Hello,
A few weeks ago, I accidentally spilled 15 liters of LIDL motor oil into my G4 PD 130 ASZ! It ran without any problems, and even the rough idling when it's cold disappeared!

Hello fellow mechanics!
'People often casually add a little bit of biodiesel, say about a third, to their tank. Is the effort actually worth it for a savings of about 3/4 of a euro per tank? The question is, does the fuel consumption remain the same? It's important to remember that biodiesel doesn't have the same lubricating properties or cleaning effects as diesel. And what happens to the engine over a distance of 100,000 kilometers?'
Sure, here's the translation:
'Just to provide some background information:'
Finot bad for an AFb.
There are two possibilities: Either it will explode soon, or...
Does this ultimate diesel cleaner really deliver the promised cleaning effect on injectors/pumps, etc.? Considering everything I've tried to get the engine running properly, who knows.
But for the first time, I understand why I drive a V6 TDI and not a PD130PS .
Best regards, Manuel.

Back to the topic:
Based on my experience (specifically with PD engines), I claim that the smoother running becomes noticeably apparent even at 10%. Also, the tendency to produce soot decreases somewhat. There is no noticeable loss of power (unlike with RME, where even at low percentages, there is less power available in the lower RPM range).
For just a few liters, you can also use the Aldi bottles. And on the parking lot, no one has ever complained about it.
See you then.
Olaf.
P.S.
If you do a lot of short trips, I would advise against using it. It only unnecessarily stresses the particulate filter elements and the lift pump.
