AFN Chip: What it is and how it works

Hello TDI enthusiasts,

I received an Oettinger chip as a gift for my AFN.
However, this chip comes from an A4 AFN, while I own a G3 AFN myself.
Sollte es da Probleme geben bzgl. Checksum or similar?
The engine control unit (ECU) should be the same (021GN).

Do only the part numbers need to be identical, or also the two letters after the number?

If I still install the chip, and if the letters are different, I assume that the checksum will be different, and the engine won't start at all, but nothing will break in the control unit... did I learn that correctly from the forum?
