VagCOM and speedometer adjustment

Is it possible to change the mileage using VCDS (VagCOM)?
I need this because I installed a new one, as the old one was defective. How can I do that?

If the mileage of the new station wagon is less than 100 kilometers, it can be adjusted upwards (and only upwards).
What make, model, and year is the vehicle, and what is the engine code?

Golf 4, manufactured in 1998, with an ALH engine - I've seen adjustments before where it was possible to 'screw' the settings down if the mileage was over 100,000 km, and all of this was done via OBD2.

There has to be a way to do it through the diagnostic interface, right?

Login with 13861.
Adjusting Channel 9.
The KM value should be adjustable in increments of 10 km.

...and after 999,999 comes 0.

You can only adjust combination instruments that have less than 100 kilometers on them.

I tried it yesterday too. But it didn't even make it into the instrument cluster.
It probably has to do with the fact that my adapter is missing the L-line? Or does that not work with my car because of its age?

Well, I wouldn't change the total mileage anyway. I'm proud of every kilometer that my 'little one' manages to complete .

My posts referred to the "normal" procedure for installing a new instrument cluster. In that case, the mileage reading should be below 100 kilometers. And this procedure was developed by VAG specifically for this use case.
But if I understand you correctly, you actually want to do exactly that, right?

That's exactly what I intend to do. Unfortunately, this part is not new and already has 177,000 miles on it. Now, I want to adjust it to match my current mileage (85,000). Is there another way to do this?

Has there been any progress with the speedometer adjustment?

'I also had the engine replaced in my 'Golf 3'. The problem was that I installed a VR6 engine from a Passat, and the speedometer doesn't fit in the Golf. So, I got a different speedometer, and it already had over 100,000 km on it.'

I tried it once yesterday, following MichaelII's instructions and the tip about channel 40, but unfortunately, it didn't work. As soon as I tried to change the value, I got an "ERROR" message.

At my Vau Weh workshop, they explained it to me like this: The old circuit board is read, and then the data is transferred to the new one. If that were possible, I would be overjoyed. Just that, and now comes the big question: "HOW"?!?!?!?!

Maybe someone knows the answer to that?

I looked into the matter out of pure curiosity and did some reading. It's probably not possible to do this with VCDS (VAG-COM). In my opinion, it's understandable and goes against the philosophy of VCDS and Ross-Tech. Otherwise, you'd quickly gain a reputation for having a manipulation tool instead of a diagnostic tool.

However, for many VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda vehicles, it should be possible using specialized software and a diagnostic interface.
