Hi

Has anyone ever driven their 1Z (or Brueder) with and without a heat shield on the rear engine mount (the hydraulic mount)?

Were there any differences to be noted?

It seems that some cases exist where the sheet metal was not present from the factory, even though the turbo could then really "expose" the hydraulic bearing.

I've also heard that the sheets can sometimes make annoying rattling noises and are therefore removed.

I don't have one, and my engine makes significantly more noise (vibrations transmitted to the chassis) when warm compared to when cold - therefore, the consideration of a too-warm, i.e., worn engine bearing.

Hi,
I once had an Ibiza with the 1Z engine, and after the first 20,000 km, ALL of the heat shields started falling off, one after another. (like 'just married' with a rat family attached to empty beer cans at the back of the car)

I haven't noticed any negative effects up to 140,000 km - then it was sold.
positiv was, that the annoying clicking was finally gone.

When I bought my AHU, there was a heat shield attached. It was making a lot of noise icon_evil.gif. So, I quickly removed this rear shield and it was fine. I didn't notice any immediate difference at the time. Currently, my motor mounts are particularly wobbly, especially in hot weather. This is probably also due to the removal of the splash guard. icon_idea.gif

However, from my time as an intern at ZF, I know that this particular splash guard for the rear hydro-bearing is absolutely essential to ensure the long life of the bearing. (I have already commented on this topic in the forum)

Absolutely, this fender definitely has an impact on the temperature-dependent damping properties and lifespan of the hydraulic seal!

However, it is important to determine whether vehicles with and without mud flaps have the same type of hydraulic bearings.

Best regards, Georg

According to FILE belongs to each 1Z of this part.

Then I'll probably have to go to VW and get it repaired again.

Thank you.

Hello

'I had a similar issue where the aluminum sheet at the rear bearing was also torn and making a lot of noise.'
When I replaced all the engine mounts, I also replaced this heat shield. It doesn't cost the world, and I didn't want to put any 'stress' on my new warehouse either.

To get straight to the point. The new sheet metal has been modified by the manufacturer so that it is now made of 2 sheets with an intermediate layer of some damping material. It still looks the same, but it no longer makes a noise when you knock on it. That old one was just single-layer aluminum.

This is because it is now thicker and also has a certain degree of 'elasticity' in its thickness, which allows you to firmly push the edges of the brackets without the risk of them falling out.

Best regards

...and some more about the warehouses.
The rear hydro-bearing on the engine is, to my knowledge, always the same for the 1Z model.
However, the gearbox mount was replaced starting with the 1995 model year with the VR6's hydraulic mount. Before 95, I think it was just a rubber suspension!
