CD control radio Gamma 4

Hi everyone, (VW Passat TDI, 81 kW, year of manufacture 1996).
I want to use my MD player with the CD player's controls. I bought an adapter cable for this, but I'm not getting any signal. It says 'no CD.'
Is there a solution to this?
Do I need a trigger signal, and if so, how can I generate it and with what voltage?
or do I have to build a connector myself with the correct wiring?
I know that the focus here is mainly on engines and such, but I could use a little help. Thank you, and goodbye.

If that also applies to a MiniDisc player, then that might be the solution.
I wonder if it's possible to build something like that yourself?
Ultimately, my Gamma 4 radio is just missing a CD signal input. Or am I wrong?
Which version is right for me?
