'I've been experiencing a problem for some time now where the oil level sensor no longer alerts me when the oil level is at the minimum. The first malfunction occurred at approximately 52,000 km. I checked because, based on the previous maintenance intervals, the sensor should have alerted me to refill the oil. I was shocked to find that the level was between the lower bend of the dipstick mark and the end of the dipstick. Since then, the yellow warning light or audible alert has never activated when the oil level has dropped to the minimum. I've now reached almost 73,000 km.'
Oil consumption is approximately 1 liter per 8,000 kilometers.
Can I test the sensor myself? During the last inspection, there were no error codes indicating a defect. How does the sensor work? (Is it a float sensor or a pressure sensor - hydrostatic pressure?)
If you become accustomed to a certain level of oil consumption, and then a component like a valve stem seal fails or a piston ring cracks, causing a drastic increase in oil consumption, it can be disastrous if you continue driving until the oil pressure warning light comes on.

Hello,
It's not uncommon for things to be like this.
I've heard this from other TDI drivers before, and I've even experienced it myself: the oil level drops below the minimum mark, but the warning light doesn't come on.
I could be wrong, but as far as I know, the TDI engine only has one oil pressure sensor. And as long as the pump is still supplying some oil, the sensor won't trigger because there's still enough pressure.
As soon as it starts, there's usually no oil pressure left, and you can quickly cause significant damage.
Greetings.

Hello,
The oil pressure warning comes from the 'oil pressure switch,' which every engine essentially has.
The prompt to refill the oil comes from an electronic sensor that actually determines the 'oil level'!
These are two different things!
Otherwise, the oil level sensor will also be deactivated, even with a fixed maintenance interval.
Best regards,
Günther.

Hello there,
Since I had my Octavia recently, I wanted to know if and when the oil level warning light would come on. I got fed up with it being at about 0.3 - 0.4 liters below the minimum mark and topped it up. Then, in December 2004, I finally received an oil level warning: a yellow light with an oil can symbol and the usual unpleasant beeping. When I checked the oil level, it was about 0.2 liters below the minimum. I could have lived with that, but as my previous experience shows, you shouldn't rely on it. So, it's better to check it regularly.
Regards, mcgregg. Skoda Octavia II Combi TDI, 2012, 103kW/140PS MKB CFHC
