Error Database: Troubleshooting & Solutions (09-08-2002, 22:04)

In the error database, there's a post by Ulf that urgently needs to be revised before someone tries it.

'DIY solution for engine starting problems with VP 37.'

'It describes a shift of the VP37 signal box, but that's not how it works. ---> The shift is in the wrong direction, and even a movement of 1/10 to 2/10 mm will definitely cause problems. Those who try it will find out. No one has reported any issues yet, so no one has tried it.'

You're right! However, anyone who reads through the forum will be able to find the post by ULF and me where we discuss moving the pump cover. We clearly state there that the engine can be damaged by incorrect settings, or at best, simply stop working!
By the way, you should check out the article "Quantity control valve and control path generator for the VP37 distributor injection pump" on Rainer's website. It contains a clear WARNING against making careless attempts.
It would probably be better to include this warning in the article from the error database as well.

Why hasn't anyone complained yet? Surely some people have been discouraged by Ulf's experiments and his warnings about them!

I did this because I believe it's unreasonable to expect anyone to sift through all the old forum posts when they're looking for quick help based on error data.
