Today, the turbocharger on my Golf III with the AAZ engine failed. It's whistling and not producing any boost, accompanied by a puff of smoke.
I only drove it for three days with a charge air cooler kit from KW-Systems. This increases the boost pressure to 0.9 bar. KW-Systems certainly isn't responsible, but it ultimately caused my turbocharger to fail.
Do you know if the turbocharger from a 90 HP TDI engine will also fit on my AAZ engine?
How do I remove it? Can it be done from the top? Does the exhaust manifold need to be removed as well?
Or even better: Does anyone have one they're giving away cheaply?

So, it turns out he's not doing so well after all, which is obviously unfortunate.
I think the turbo would probably fit, but I believe the nozzle that delivers the compressed air is pointed backwards, not diagonally upwards and forwards like on the AAZ turbo. Of course, I don't know if it could be modified to work, but it would be good to figure that out.
'To someone who knows, could you tell me which direction the nozzle that releases compressed air points in on the 1Z?'

Hello,
The air outlet of my 1L charger (G3) is currently pointing upwards.
Best regards, Bertil.
