Hello,
Can anyone tell me something about the MKB engine? I'm looking at a 1.9-liter diesel.
It has direct injection and 75 horsepower. Apparently, it will also be available in the A4 model from 1996 onwards.
'Possibly a TAXI version? I found something online about it.'
Equipment code GR (Greece?).
I hope you can provide some helpful information .
You're welcome: H-P

Hi,
According to a table I found online, the AFF is a 1.9L TDI engine with 75 horsepower, which was used in the Audi A4 from 1996 to 2000.
Regarding the 'GR' abbreviation, I also believe it refers to Greece.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'Addendum:'
Bitte gib mir den deutschen Text, den du übersetzt haben möchtest.
I've done some more digging. GR stands for Greece. In terms of its construction, the AFF probably corresponds to the 1Z (waste-gate turbo). The detuned version in Greece might be due to stricter emission standards or lower fuel quality .

Hi,
A TDI with 75 horsepower? Definitely not a pre-chamber diesel.
My car painter bought a VW bus, supposedly a 75hp TDI from the year 2000. When I looked under the hood, I saw an 827 VW diesel engine with a turbocharger and a mechanical injection pump (no intercooler) staring back at me!! Is that supposed to be a TDI? Gruß Bertil

Hi Bertil.
According to our definition, TDI is a turbocharged direct injection engine with electronic engine management.
However, in my opinion, this doesn't exclude the possibility of running the base engine with a purely mechanical pump – i.e., without any electronics, which essentially only "fine-tunes" the mechanical basic principle of the VP 37 to maintain the (narrow) optimum of performance, fuel consumption, and emissions.
Perhaps a "mechanical TDI" was actually built at some point, with less power and slightly worse emissions and fuel consumption values. But whether something like that should still be called a TDI . Gruß Ulf

Hello...
Yes, there are mechanically controlled VP37 pumps.
I came across some 0.216 nozzles while searching. You can buy one of those from a VW bus supplier/retrofit specialist (brand new, around 2000 lira).
I know of a private rally driver who has converted a Golf 2 with a mechanical VP37 injection pump installed in a 1Z engine.
I find this to be a very interesting topic: reverting motor control to a mechanical system would likely reduce torque by a few Nm while maintaining the same emissions quality, but it would eliminate problems with electronics .

Yes, that exists. Audi used to offer it in the A4. This is a biodiesel engine. I have no idea whether it actually tolerates it or not. I only know this by chance, because I recently had some Audi documents during a training course, which were for the 1Z, AFN, and this particular engine. They are almost identical in terms of wiring diagrams and measurement blocks.
Best regards,
Dominique.

Hi,
I followed the link that Georg posted. It leads to a mechanical VP37 engine with an LLK output of 86 kW.
What Dominique wrote about the AFF aligns with my records.
However, if there is a significant degree of similarity with the 1Z (wiring diagrams and data blocks), then there cannot be any mechanical ESP (Electronic Stability Program) components present.
