I had my vehicle inspection (TÜV) and emissions test (AU) appointment today.

I passed the TÜV inspection without any noticeable defects.

During the subsequent emissions test and the initial free acceleration to test the rev limiter, it went into limp mode. My 17-size turbocharger probably doesn't like free acceleration! I'll have to adjust the variable turbine geometry (VTG) rod again.

'For the three subsequent measurements, I only used a maximum boost pressure of 0.5 bar. The turbidity detected during these measurements was 1.9, which is very close to the limit, and I wonder if the maximum values set by the legislature are not already outdated.'

If a heavily modified AFN engine with 270,000 km on the clock, which has been chip-tuned and is in a limp mode, passes a mandatory emissions test, then the established values are likely not accurate.

Does a EU4 diesel engine actually have a maximum opacity of 2.0?

A final measurement without the engine running showed a turbidity of 0.5. However, since I was controlling the boost pressure with the accelerator pedal, the acceleration time was, of course, incorrect! Therefore, the emissions test was not passed.

Regards,

Manuel.

Yes... the AU only measures house numbers, anyway.

Also, yes... even DPF vehicles have a maximum permissible opacity of 2.0 icon_eek.gif.

AU = Absolutely Unreasonable.

The whole thing is nothing but a complete mess. Besides costing money, it doesn't really achieve anything worthwhile. They should focus the measurement on CO2 emissions and then base the taxation on that.
