Towing Hitch Unlock: VW Golf 5 and Newer Models (Solution)

Hi.

I haven't had the VCDS for very long, and I now want to activate the trailer hitch function.

There is a manual available for the Bosal trailer hitch.

It is described on page 22. However, I'm not entirely sure yet how to implement it.

The vehicle was manufactured in 2007 and has parking sensors (PDC), but not a parking assist system.
I would also like to enable the trailer stabilization feature.

Can someone help me with this, or do I need to retrieve something from the car first?

First of all, welcome to the club .

Please run a complete (error) scan of all STG systems and post the results here.

Depending on the installed equipment (e.g., parking distance control), several software modules may need to be reconfigured.
It may even be necessary to perform a software update on one or more of the storage devices.
All of that would tell us what a complete scan reveals .

What brand is the electric kit from? This information isn't available either in the auction listing or in the instructions...

I've already experimented with it a bit. For example, I managed to activate the rear windshield wiper on my Octavia 2, but I couldn't find the setting for the front wipers.

I will only be able to read the car's diagnostic data on Saturday.

If I remember correctly, after the error scan, there's a file that can be saved in the upper left corner, which is probably what you're referring to.

I can't tell you which manufacturer it is yet, as I haven't seen the tow hitch.

Steps for retrofitting a trailer hitch:
- In the CAN gateway, using address 19, encode the "trailer control unit." The VCDS coding assistant (tooltip or LCode) will tell you how.
- If a PDC (Parking Distance Control) is installed (address 76), enter the extension of the rear parking sensor in channel 2 by making an adjustment.
- If the parking assist system is installed (address 10), adjust the coding. The VCDS coding assistant (tooltip or LCode) will tell you how.
- ABS/ESP control unit (address 03), enable trailer stabilization if supported.
- Body control module (address 09), activate the function to disable the rear fog light when towing a trailer. The coding assistant (tooltip or LCode) in VCDS will tell you how.
- Engine control unit (address 01), reprogram to enable trailer hitch (standard or extended programming, depending on the control unit). Ignition must be ON, engine OFF. Unlike previous control units, no login code is required; instead, it is directly programmed.
- If a reversing camera (address 6C) is installed, check and adjust its settings as well through the coding process.
