It's interesting, a surprisingly large number that do long-distance driving and little city traffic, and even the weaker bolt holds up well! Like in my Passat, which still had the weaker bolt when I bought it with 460,000 km! I threw it away as a precaution. I know the previous owner personally; he almost exclusively drove on federal highways and autobahns! "OPA" driving style often solves a lot of city traffic problems, but these *damn* screws tend to come loose easily. NA,Gehörlose wie ich können auch Schrauben! Ihr HÖRT ich FÜHLE! Now, I also need to chime in, because my car has now reached 171,800 km - without any failures in the engine itself. Only the fuel injection system experienced two issues that resolved themselves.
Incidentally, more than 100,000 km of that distance was covered using rapeseed methyl ester (RME) and RME/fuel oil mixtures.
Currently, my driving profile is about 50% city driving and 50% highway driving.
Current shortcomings:
- Exhaust pipe corroded in 2 places (around the center muffler).
(This is still the first exhaust pipe.) He had it welded about 1.5 years ago.
I have the impression that the fuel consumption has decreased since the exhaust system was modified.
The noise level is within acceptable limits.
- The glow plug system seems to be defective. When the first frosty nights arrive, it probably won't start up as easily. (By the way, the original battery is still in the car.) She's still in great shape, considering she's almost 10 years old!
I probably should get around to repairing the preheating system sometime. What's the relay number for the glow plug system again? Thanks.
I probably should also start thinking about replacing the power steering fluid soon. Is the first one still available?
There's a lot of debate about the best type of gear oil to use. It's usually a long-life oil, so it's good for 250,000 km.
The suspension has shown no unusual behavior so far. How long do shock absorbers typically last?

Is there a specific requirement to change the steering fluid? If so, when? That's news to me!
My TDI has only 120,000 km on it.
The rear shock absorbers are slowly reaching the end of their lifespan. It's noticeable that even with new tires, the car becomes more nervous during weight transfers and generally exhibits less understeer. Oil leak, but not yet any [other problems].
Regards,
Olaf.
P.S.
Okay, the exhaust muffler is new (the bracket was missing and the corner at the back was corroded). The manifold is okay. The next part that's likely to wear out is the bracket located right in front of the catalytic converter.
The engine is a 1.4L, 3-cylinder AMF model, manufactured in 2000.

Hello.
Okay, I'm currently at 203,000 km.
MKB: ARL GKB: EFF Series
71,000 km, turbocharger failure (covered by VW warranty).
165,000 km, 4 x PDe replaced.
Tandem pump replaced at 186,000 km.
Now it has 203,000 km on the odometer, and the bushings on the rear axle are making a clattering noise. Will be done soon.
Clutch, gearbox, shock absorbers, and exhaust are all still original.

(Why would you put such a long-lasting engine in such a short-lived chassis?)
5.6 liters per 100 kilometers.
Still no oil consumption.
Valve or lifter ticking, depending on the age of the engine.
I once used oil specifically designed for PD engines, which caused extremely loud knocking noises after cold starts with a standing time of 8 hours or more. It's likely that the lifters were damaged. After changing the oil and going back to the tried-and-true method, the problem disappeared again.

Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI 6K Facelift, 113,000 km.
Engine original: ALH, 90 horsepower.
Engine tuned: Stage 1 tuning, 150 horsepower, at approximately 82,000 km => tuned for about 30,000 km.
Since the tuning, there have been the usual problems with too much or too little boost pressure due to a faulty solenoid valve, a sticking variable geometry turbocharger (VTG), or leaking hoses. Recently, the clutch has started to slip intermittently.

My Passat 35i 1Z died due to engine failure. While driving on the highway at 140 km/h, the crankshaft stub with the timing belt pulley broke.
The engine was running well up until that point, with good starting performance, low oil consumption, and 460,000 km without any significant engine repairs.
It served its purpose, but it's still a shame.

And yes - still with the original engine!

Passat Variant 35i AFN CYP
At 283,000 km, there was a transmission failure (the 5th gear clutch pack detached from the output shaft). According to the mechanic, this is not an uncommon problem with the 02A transmissions. Cause: Fret corrosion.
The engine was in excellent condition up to that mileage, with oil consumption around 1 liter per 10,000 km, and no significant repairs needed. It was sometimes driven with minor modifications.
The car is now starting its 3rd [year/stage/chapter/etc.]. Life in Ukraine

Volvo V70 TDI with a 5-cylinder Audi AEL engine. Originally 140 hp, but with Kerscher tuning it's around 175 hp and just under 400 Nm of torque.
At approximately 250,000 kilometers, the clutch was replaced. Today, it has 310,000 kilometers and is still running and running and running.
At approximately 160,000 kilometers, the engine is leaking, and it's likely that the previous owner used biodiesel.
I have driven approximately 20,000 kilometers on PÖL.

I was just browsing the forum and came across this thread, which is already quite old, and I want to revive it again with my Octavia 1U2 ASV.
Besides a 40/40 H&R suspension kit, it's completely stock.
Mileage: Approximately 210,000 km.
Oil consumption: approximately 0.5 liters per 30,000 kilometers.
Diesel consumption: approximately 5 - 5.5 liters per 100 km in urban driving.
Approximately 4.5 - 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers outside of urban areas.
Highway, full load: approximately 7.5 - 8 liters per 100 kilometers.
Highway: ~150 km/h (approximately 93 mph), fuel consumption: approximately 6 - 6.5 liters per 100 km.
~130,000 km: Oil change due to damage to the free-wheel hub (seized).
~170,000 km: VP37 replacement. Leakage in the high-pressure section after switching back from biodiesel to regular diesel. (50,000 km test using 100% biodiesel).
~200,000 km: Replaced the Mass Air Flow sensor (still the original one). (Fuel consumption was nearly 10 liters per 100 km at full load on the highway, and the maximum speed was not exceeding 180 km/h). Any attempts to verschandeln it were unsuccessful.
~200,000 km: Replaced the N75 magnetic valve.
Next important upcoming task: verschandeln the VTG.
Best regards. ...wenn der Klügere nachgibt, haben die Dummen das Sagen...

Okay, here's my Skoda, I'm posting it here as well.
Model: Skoda Octavia 1U5 Estate/Wagon 1.9 TDI 4x4.
Engine: 1.9 PD-TDI ATD
Date of manufacture: 01/03.
Currently at 250,000 km; extremely reliable. Aside from a few minor issues (75% of which are normal wear and tear), there haven't been many problems (all prices are estimates for parts and labor):
50,000: Rust on the tailgate >> Covered under warranty/goodwill.
90,000 - Rust reappeared on the tailgate >> Covered under warranty.
"Rear suspension arm broken. Skoda refused to offer any goodwill coverage. All four suspension arms were replaced with new, revised models (approximately €500)."
190,000 vehicles with faulty automatic headlight activation (approximately €100 to fix).
210,000 miles, shocks completely worn out (approximately €300).
211,000: Rust reappeared on the tailgate. This time, a revised handle trim was installed to prevent further rust (210€).
220,000 air mass sensors are defective (approximately €70 each).
235,000: Serpentine belt tensioner - noise, replaced (approx. €100).
239.000 km: Driver's side door hinge defective (door sagging), replaced (approx. €200).
244,000 km: Clutch and dual-mass flywheel replaced (€900).
245,000: Faulty or leaking clutch actuator hydraulic line (€100).
Besides that, nothing else was wrong with the car – a truly perfect record so far. The only thing that really bothered me were the control arms, considering the car had only just over 100,000 km. Skoda dismissed it as a "regrettable isolated case," even though the forums for the Golf IV and similar models are full of problems with the control arm joints... and why would there be new control arms if everything was okay with the old ones? It was definitely expensive, but having 4 new ones makes you feel a bit more secure...
He also didn't show up, and then, while changing the tires, there was a terrible cracking sound, and the rear wheel had 5cm of play in the vertical direction. If that happens on the highway while you're in a curve, it's a disaster.
Consumption values: 4.5 ... 7.0 L / 100km, and the current average for the year is 6.1 L/100km.
Oil consumption: approximately 1 liter / 30,000 km, which is roughly one bottle of oil over the service interval.
All in all, it's an absolutely reliable and highly recommended vehicle.
Edit 06/13/2011: Updated...

Okay, I'll give it a try too.
Audi A4 AFN: 300,000 km with no issues. Everything is still original parts. Just regular maintenance, and the air conditioning system has been refurbished, and a solenoid valve for the automatic transmission has been replaced. Even the front axle is original and still in excellent condition.
No measurable oil consumption.
Mostly for use on country roads and in the city.
Audi A3 ALH: Now has 270,000 km on the odometer. The car is running well, but it has a new suspension system and the exhaust is starting to wear out. All 4 wheel bearings replaced.
Slight starting problems when the engine is warm (it cranks for longer than usual, but always starts eventually).
Rust on the lower door edges and fenders.
No measurable oil consumption.
Mostly for use on country roads and in the city.
Audi A6 V6. Mileage: 310,000 km. Purchased new and has been trouble-free. Everything is original. Now, it's time for some axle parts replacement and a service. Oil consumption: approximately 0.1 liters per 1000 km.
Highway patrol.
Golf 4 PD ASZ: 200,000 km. The flywheel, clutch, etc. need to be replaced. Otherwise, there's a wheel bearing and a CV joint boot that need attention. Freshly purchased, no idea what all has been replaced or renewed.
Likely intended for use on rural roads only.
