The ~3€ is a price for retailers.

They will then cost €4.65 + VAT = €5.39

Okay, thank you, the private message is there.

It appears to be a fairly ordinary parts dealer, at least not a branch of any well-known nationwide company.

No, that's a chain company, and it's not exactly "small" either (just Google it). But its operations are limited to the central region of Germany.
The dealer is more focused on business with workshops. The independent retail sector, selling directly to end customers through sales branches, is not as prominent.

The constantly failing H7 bulbs really annoyed me, so I wanted to chime in with my own experience as well.

For me, these things usually last around 40,000 km, and I drive with the lights on a lot.
Starting from the second sentence, I've decided to always turn off the lights before turning off the engine.
And lo and behold, the lifespan was almost doubled, lasting for 70,000 km. And that despite being a cheap lamp from Lidl.

There's probably some truth to the idea that the H7 doesn't like vibrations.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'MFG' stands for 'Mit freundlichen Grüßen,' which translates to 'Sincerely' or 'Best regards' in English. It is a common way to end a formal letter or email.

Where is the connection here? I think the second sentence was better than the first one...

All the VAG cars I know of turn off the lights when they are started... so the H7 bulbs also go out with the engine if you leave them on.

Quote:

I don't believe that a slightly more intense jolt when turning off the engine makes such a big difference compared to all the vibrations experienced during normal driving, especially since the lights are usually off or just about to turn off in those situations anyway (as mentioned above).

The variation between different series or lamp manufacturers, and the likely very different "vibration compatibility" between the car and the lamp, are probably more significant factors in this case.

It's more efficient to turn on the lights only after the engine has started! This not only conserves battery power, but also prevents the lamps from going through a start-up process (as mentioned in the comments above), because they are switched back to low beam at the moment of starting.

Best regards,

January.

Earlier icon_wink.gif

Thanks, but the body control module and the "coming home" and "leaving home" functions are no longer working like that. And that has nothing to do with my xenon headlights; my sister's 3C model does the same thing (with its H7 bulbs).

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

I've actually only noticed the "lamp eater" effect since I started using generic light bulbs from Bauhaus.
IIRC, the original H7 bulbs in the Ibiza lasted for about 5 years / 65,000 km and then both failed within a few months. I replaced the first one (a generic brand) this morning after approximately 1 year of use / 18,000 km – again with a generic brand from my stock that I bought during a special offer.

Update:
A few days later, the second "NoName" apple also died.
The "precision of inferior quality" is quite remarkable: just like factory-made bulbs after about 5 years, these ones break down after only 1 year icon_eek.gif.

Today, I sent out some price inquiries in the Saarbrucken area.

For two people sharing a room, it didn't sound too bad (prices per item/unit).

1. Philips H7 bulbs for €5.95.
2. Spahn H7 for €4.71.

Can anyone randomly assess the quality of Spahn lamps (click on the link above)? Are they just generic products from Germany, or are they something more durable, like Bertil's Hellalampen?

Interestingly, it was also revealed that some practitioners want 10 euros for a standard H7 bulb from Philips. So, even during regular "20% off" weeks when the price is 8 euros, it's still 34% more expensive than what I paid from my first contacted supplier!
Here's a perfect example of the profit-driven tactics used by construction and supermarket chains today:
Build an image focused on "affordable prices."
"Aggressively upsell customers with small, inexpensive items by saying things like, 'Oh yes, I'm just adding this to your order now,' knowing that few people will bother comparing prices for these items."

Welcome to reality. icon_lol.gif icon_wink.gif

I recently needed two M10 screws. My local hardware store and small parts shop (a great little family-owned business like "Eisen Karl") charged me 50 cents for them. At O*, the same screws would cost 3.75 Euros! icon_exclaim.gif

P.S.: ... go with the Philips ones. Unless they're specifically a "Blue Vision" or "Vision Plus," or some other kind of "super lamp," they're really fine. I've had the best experiences with the standard "premium" ones.

At Philips, you can find all types of lamps in 100 different versions. For more information, click here.

Somehow, the information on the Philips page had to be heavily adjusted to conform to the "Boa ey" narrative, even resorting to technical nonsense.

Yes, that's kind of like "Boah Ey" ... icon_lol.gif

In reality, "Blue Vision" is a special (blue-shimmering) piston coating}. It has little to do with the "Xenon effect," but it is often referred to as such because its light spectrum is very similar to that of a xenon lamp.
This piston coating is also available for xenon burners.
These Blue Vision headlights are actually very good (extremely expensive and short-lived) lamps. Out of the four H7 bulbs in my car (each costing 18 Euros in 2002 at Philips PV!), only one is still working. And that one is even in the high beam setting. In the low beam, the brightness was gone after just two years.

Thank you for the note about it being "short-lived."

I was planning to replace my H7 headlights and HB4 fog lights/daytime running lights with BlueVision bulbs.

They really seem to be building Xenon BV.

@Jan6K

Hi, the issue might be a voltage spike in the vehicle's electrical system when the engine is turned off.

Fakt ist aber, das auch der 4. Satz mittlerweile seit 59 tkm läuft. Immer unterschiedl. Manufacturer.

Who turns on the light first and then starts [something]?

I don't think it's that simple.
Hot filaments are more sensitive to vibration than cold ones.

If I now imagine...
a) How quickly a TDI engine goes through its shaking phase and comes to a complete stop after being turned off.
b) How long a halogen lamp operating at 100% intensity will continue to glow after being turned off ("Power Off"), without being affected by the illusion caused by the blinded eye icon_wink.gif}.
Then, the motor shakers will definitely encounter "very hot" filaments, especially if the lights are still on.

Therefore, I believe that turning off the light before switching off the engine is generally good for the lifespan of the bulb, until I have diagrams.
- regarding the temperature dependence of the vibration sensitivity of the heating filaments.
- regarding the temperature profile above the nozzle after switching off the voltage.
I see that they show that the heating elements become "cold-stable" faster than the engine speed begins to decrease when stopping. icon_razz.gif

@ dieselmartin: Regarding the fog lights, I strongly advise against using bluish lamps. Their light is absorbed particularly strongly by wet roads, contrary to all promises made by manufacturers or sellers. You will be much better off with normal (uncolored) lamps or the yellow all-weather versions! Since I read that your fog lights also serve as daytime running lights, I would recommend a long-life product for increased durability.

@ flightmaster: Me!! icon_rolleyes.gif In the dark, I get in, activate the parking light to turn on the instrument lighting, start the engine, and only right before departure do I turn on the headlights. The process is reversed: first, reduce the lights to the parking light, then shut off the engine, and when exiting, I switch everything else off as well. Thanks to the railroad crossing ("gong"), icon_lol.gif you can't forget. From the garage at home, in the dark, I only drive out (forward) with the parking light or back in (backward). During the 30 seconds of opening or closing the garage, I also don't turn off the engine.

Hi,

Quote:

I still think that 100 meters of cobblestone pavement will produce stronger vibrations than simply parking a TDI.

By the way, I also turn off the light before switching off the engine, but mainly to reduce the load on the corresponding contacts of the switch or relay – this reduces the current that needs to be switched by more than 10 amps.

Quote:

Probably none of us (if "light" refers to low beam headlights, parking lights don't count), but you can see it on many cars.

Best regards,

January.
