Today, I tried to replace an AXR belt and was familiar with the older version that included an additional tensioning element. I saw the new tensioner roller (which is installed from engine number 100000 onwards) for the first time today.
'Hey, what's the purpose of the included locking pin for the tensioner pulley? I'm a bit confused... According to the instructions, you're supposed to rotate the central part counter-clockwise and then insert the pin. Okay, but the position would remain the same anyway, since there's no second spring or anything like that. And if you install the pulley with the pin inserted, you can't get the belt onto the water pump. So, you have to remove the pin, maybe rotate the central part a centimeter clockwise so the belt fits. Then, theoretically, you can rotate it back and reinsert the pin. Then remove it again and tension the pulley clockwise until the indicator shows the correct reading.'
Has anyone ever done this before and understood the deeper meaning?
Okay, here's the translation:
Thank you.
Jens.

"The tensioner pulley is pre-tensioned with the locating pin against the tension direction of the timing belt, in order to create more space for the timing belt installation in conjunction with the loose eccentric (the tensioner pulley)." 3B5 AJM

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. As I mentioned, nothing is stretched during this process, and the roller would simply remain in that position. Or, is the roller I have here not the correct one?
Does the pre-tensioning process using this tool during assembly have any effect on the actual tightening process, specifically rotating the eccentric until the indicator is in the correct position?
