Hey, so... if I stay below 1800 RPM on the straight road to save diesel, so that the turbocharger doesn't engage, I'm using less fuel, right? (I think icon_redface.gif). But what does the turbo say about that? Does it matter to it, or will it cause damage in the long run?
Thanks icon_wink.gif.

Hi,

what??

Since when has the turbo not been 'engaging' below 1800 RPM?
Does your car produce absolutely no emissions at that RPM?
Then you would save an incredible amount of diesel icon_wink.gif.

If the turbo doesn't "kick in" (or become effective) until 1800 RPM, then there's definitely something wrong with your car. When I'm at full throttle in third gear, starting from idle RPM, the boost kicks in much earlier (ASV, 81 kW, with a car weighing 1240 kg).

Regarding the engine speed... I very rarely drive above 1500 RPM in the city, usually only 1200, and I shift gears at the latest at 2000 RPM, but mostly at 1500 RPM.

Best regards,

Jan.

For me, things really start to pick up after 2500. Below 2000, there's almost nothing, and even up to 2500, there's only a little.

Chip installed + EGR valve faulty.

The same applies to my colleague, also known as AFN.

arne

Then something is broken on your end.

A. People's subjective impressions vary greatly.
B. Indeed, there are differences.
For example, with my AMF that has an *** chip, it already produces significant power around 1600-1700 RPM, whereas with the stock chip, you only reached that power level around 2000 RPM.
The J.Weimann AMF has also been chipped (CTK). As a result, the operating speed has shifted upwards to approximately 2100 RPM (this impression is also confirmed by data read from the control unit; I can provide a link to the torque curve if needed, although it was already mentioned in some thread).
This is also reasonably representative, as we both drove both cars in a direct comparison and had the same impressions.

Regarding the "failing" charger:
Shifting to a higher gear earlier, while maintaining a slightly higher RPM, can noticeably save fuel, especially with diesel engines. This certainly won't harm the turbocharger, as long as you occasionally give the car a bit more power every few days, so that the turbocharger pressure control system doesn't become stuck over time. I've seen this happen with engines that have a wastegate. Eventually, the linkage can rust and seize if the turbocharger pressure never reaches the blow-off range.

Regards,

Olaf.

Okay, so I have a chip from Wimmer Racing Technology installed in my AFN.

Above 1500 RPM, I experience the infamous 'kick in the pants.' The only thing that bothers me about this chip is that it informs the driver via the VTG control system when it's operating at full load. It's a strange feeling when it switches from overboost to normal boost pressure.

Regards,

Manuel.
