Poison doesn't exist in isolation. If you work carefully, you can reuse the material. Otherwise, there's sealant available. Depending on the car, you may need to remove/disassemble the EGR unit; otherwise, you won't be able to get the cover off. Replacing the rail is quick. Disconnect the connectors on the PD injectors; they are quite "tight." Loosen the two screws from the outside of the round connector and carefully pull the component out. Reassemble in reverse order, and it's done...

Okay, I had to loosen the AGR unit and move it slightly to the side in order to reach one of the screws on the cover. It's not a major job overall, but removing the cover itself is quite fiddly. The timing belt cover also needs to be removed, but that came off easily as it was only held in place by two clips.
To remove the "rail," you need to use a screwdriver or something similar to slightly bend the springs inward, otherwise the part will get stuck, but you'll see that when you get to that point.
You don't need to replace the gasket; I cleaned it a bit, put it back in place (with the lid), and it sealed properly again.
@Mike3BD:
You can definitely do this yourself; the icon_biggrin.gif doesn't necessarily have to be involved. It's just some basic mechanical work, and it doesn't require any special knowledge or materials. However, be careful and work very meticulously and cleanly, otherwise dirt might get in.

HI.

My Golf is also scheduled for service on Monday, and I'm having the same problems with the wiring harness. I could save the old wiring harness and maybe test it later. In my case, the error always occurred in cylinder 3. I'm going to take a look at the connector for injector element 3.

Hopefully everything will work perfectly on Monday.

Is there perhaps a repair manual or something similar available?

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"MFG" stands for "Mit freundlichen Grüßen," which translates to "Sincerely" or "Best regards" in English. It is a common way to end a formal letter or email.

Okay, the wiring harness has been replaced; it's actually not a big deal.

I've taken some photos for you here; hopefully they will be helpful. Whether the issue has been resolved will become clear in the next few days. I'll keep you updated.

When working on the AXR (likely referring to an exhaust manifold), you also need to loosen and move the AGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve out of the way. You can then verschandeln it thoroughly before reassembling everything.
