Hello,
Maybe this will help someone. Here's the text:
I had a car, (Audi A6 - 4B), that was always having problems with the power steering. It was taken to several mechanics, but the problem was never properly fixed. I checked all the connections and everything was tight. As a last resort, the steering gear was suspected.
The only thing that came to my mind before the gearbox was replaced was the suction hose to the hydraulic pump. Since this hose is very dangerous for air to be sucked in, but the hose was in perfect condition, I replaced it anyway. And there, no more AIR BLASING and no more steering NOISE!
Attention: Although this hose would never have been suspected, it was the culprit for the humming. These hoses tend to become quite stiff with age, so they can still draw in air (without any oil leaks, completely dry) even though you may not notice it.
Okay, here's the translation:
Therefore: Before the major repair begins, first, carefully inspect and, if necessary, replace this hydraulic hose, especially in older vehicles with higher mileage. Best regards
