Coolant Flange Thread Repair G3 AFN

Hello everyone,

"Since my coolant flange (where the temperature sensor is located) is leaking, I want to fix it. About two years ago, I already replaced the seals at the same location, and when tightening the screws, I slightly overtightened one."
I think that if I disassemble the parts, the screw won't tighten properly anymore, so I wanted to insert a threaded sleeve there. Now, here's my question:
What size screw is actually used there? I think it's a 6mm screw, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any of these threaded sleeves lying around that they could sell me for a small price? I don't want to buy a whole set because I probably only need one.

Hi,

Some workshops use "Helicoil" (or something similar) in such cases.
The flange has screws with a size of M6 x something.

However, I would still try it. If that doesn't work, I would suggest visiting a few workshops (trucks, agricultural machinery, cars) and asking if they can lend you one.

I always borrow the thread repair kit from the local engine rebuilder. It's not a Helicoil, but rather "real" thread inserts, with an outer diameter of about 7-8mm and an inner diameter of M6.
