I currently own a 1996 Volkswagen Passat 35i with a 110hp TDI AFN engine.
It has now clocked 401,000 km and is still completely original, with the EGR system deactivated.
Today, I filled my air conditioner and during the test run, I noticed that the motor starts running unevenly at approximately 2800 RPM and emits a huge blue cloud.
Otherwise, it runs normally both when idling and at full throttle (during the AU test), and there are no noticeable issues under load during driving.
Oil consumption is approximately 0.5 liters per 10,000 km. The engine has sufficient power, but it exhibits a slight hesitation within the same RPM range, which has been present since I purchased it four years ago and 150,000 km.
I would appreciate a tip on how to proceed, as I need to keep the costs within a certain limit.
Thank you, Rüdi.

Some AFNs seem to exhibit issues when slowly increasing speed while stationary.
to be able to produce this phenomenon.
