Hello,

Since I haven't yet figured out the search function properly, I'm asking my question with the following context: For example, in Austria, increases in performance often lead to higher costs for taxes and insurance. Also, I'm generally interested in whether something like that is even possible.

Is it possible to achieve the rated power and torque earlier and maintain them over a wider speed range?

"Most companies that offer performance upgrades, including those specializing in 'Spritspar-Tuning,' don't typically do this."
While it's generally true that higher torque is available at lower RPMs, and power is significantly increased, can this be made more consistent through modified engine software?

Here's the translation:

"In addition, could you explain the direct relationship between torque (NM) and power (KW)?"
Is a change in one quantity always coupled with a change in the other?

My thought is that with proper tuning, the maximum power could be available earlier and for a longer duration, while the maximum stock values would represent an approximate maximum across a wider RPM range. Consequently, components like the clutch and transmission should not be overloaded.

Is it possible to achieve this, or does increasing power in the lower and mid-range require accepting a corresponding increase in the upper range?

Regards,
Torsten.

In principle, yes, but...

Pocket formula: Nm x rpm / 9550 = kW
This means: If you want to achieve the maximum power (Pmax) at 3000 rpm instead of 4000 rpm, the torque must be increased by 33% compared to the value at 4000 rpm.

As long as you don't exceed the manufacturer's specified maximum torque by more than about 10% (and the clutch doesn't slip), I think this is feasible. However, the power delivery of such a modification would feel quite unusual, as the engine seems to start "partially cutting out" at around 3000 rpm.

Hello Ulf,

I already suspected that. There's probably a catch somewhere. It's unlikely that many people would want or offer such a tuning, especially if a customer later complains that the engine doesn't perform the same way above 3000 RPM.
My thought was that the torque would be strong from low RPMs up to the maximum RPM, and consequently, the acceleration would be powerful.

Well, I'd really like to drive a vehicle that has plenty of power all the way through its range.

That is not exactly a 'disciplinary measure' for economical driving. icon_wink.gif

Do you need a few more briquettes?

Well, sometimes you could really use a bit more than the roughly 100 horsepower. Economical driving? I remember times when I had to pay what diesel costs now (1.14 €) for a liter of gasoline, but of course, it was in Deutsche Mark and the taxes were half as much, also calculated in Deutsche Mark.
And it probably won't be as "cheap" as it is now. icon_confused.gif At this point, an extra euro doesn't really matter...
