Hello, dear forum community.

I've read a lot on your forum and on other forums, but unfortunately, I'm experiencing the same problem as the person who started this thread.

"When I accelerate my Passat 3BG with 74 kW and engine code AVB onto the highway, it jerks in 4th and 5th gear, starting around 3000 RPM. I've already replaced the mass airflow sensor, as the readings were as high as approximately 1200 mg/H in extreme cases (with a target value of 850 mg/H)."

He had quit smoking, and the coughing had also stopped. Until last night icon_sad.gif.

On the highway, it started to jerk again. This morning, I read the error memory using VAG-COM, and it was empty icon_cry.gif.

Where can I look for more information since the icon_biggrin.gif wants to replace the injector pump elements (ALL of them?) ...

Could it be the cable harness described?

I hope you can help me.

Best regards,

Daniel.

For that, VAGCOM is very useful.
Dial MWB 18, start the engine, and see...
If you're getting Status 16 errors when accelerating, the first thing to do is check the wiring harness.

Hello vagtuning,

Thank you for your response.

Of course, I immediately set off in the direction of the highway.

When I release the accelerator and the vehicle enters a coasting mode, I temporarily see a value of 4.0 for all four main wing bearings (018-1 to 018-4).

We then got on the train, and as always, nothing happened at around 3000 revolutions.

So, I accelerated further, and then, at approximately 3800 RPM, it started to "cough," and the status for all four oxygen sensors showed a reading of 14.0.

Can you do anything with that?

Error memory remains empty.

Thank you again for the quick help.

Daniel.

If the AVB engine also has the same wiring harness as the AXR (located under the valve cover, for controlling the PD elements), then I highly recommend replacing it. I had the exact same error code, and it was this wiring harness. The engine has been running smoothly and powerfully ever since. The price is approximately 50 euros, for the part itself.

I also encountered that error today...
Unfortunately, I've already ordered the PD element icon_evil.gif.
I wish I had read this sooner.
I would then have initially replaced the wiring harness. icon_eek.gif

If I am correct, the problem is that "normal" vehicle-suitable cables are only specified for an ambient temperature of up to 125°C. If the current flowing through the cables is low and the cross-section is large, this range can be extended.
Given that temperatures inside the head can sometimes exceed 140°C (based solely on the oil temperature, which, as is well known, is not measured at the hottest point), IMA silicone hoses with a temperature resistance of 180°C should be used.

If mechanical damage to the connectors occurs due to vibrations, these effects should be calculated or otherwise assessed.
If the connectors deform and this causes contact problems, this can also be explained by thermal factors.

I just got an old PDE wiring harness from a 74kW Passat that was also experiencing jerking and had an error code "PDE circuit 1".

I will try to investigate the exact location of the bug, including by applying a high current load of 5A and measuring the voltage drop across individual sections.

After the initial wiping of the oil layer and removal of the plastic rails, here's what I have to say:
1. All cable insulations appear to be completely normal and show no signs of thermal overload.
2. The same applies to the plastic connectors on the power distribution unit (PDU) side.

hello,

I have an AVF engine, manufactured in 2002, in my Passat 3BG. It's exhibiting RPM fluctuations and the diagnostic tool shows drops in load within a small RPM range. There was also a problem with the wiring harness connected to the injectors. I've examined the old wiring harness.

A normal measurement with a multimeter doesn't provide much information. So, I performed an insulation test using 500VDC. The wiring harness held up.

However, during a resistance measurement with a supplied current of 10A and 12VDC, it failed. The problem manifested itself precisely at a bend, just before the crimped flat connector on cylinder 1.

Well, at least now it's properly broken. I couldn't find any error entries on my end. The PD elements briefly jumped to status 4.0.

I am hoping for such or similar findings. icon_wink.gif

What exactly do you mean by "eingegangen" in your case?

hello,

Okay, I should have been more clear. So, I measured the resistance across the entire cable length, from the connector on the connection side to the connector that contacts the PD elements. The value was approximately 130 milliohms. That's acceptable for a cable with that cross-sectional area, about 1.5 sq mm. When I moved the cable assembly, I could change the resistance by bending it. However, this only happened at one specific point, right at the bend I described.

It's not measurable with a standard multimeter. However, the error becomes measurable with a current of 10A, a voltage of 12V, and a frequency of 50Hz.

bashful

Post11-09-2009, 12:28    Subject: Same Problem: Common Solutions & Troubleshooting Quote

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. I've been dealing with this issue for several weeks now. I'm really worried that the engine will be permanently damaged because of it.
The workshops can't give me a specific diagnosis, just like the previous posters. Before I pay hundreds of euros and the problem isn't fixed, I'd rather just continue as I am.

Question: Where are the cables for the PDE? Is it possible to tell from the outside if they are damaged?

I had already posted in other forums and received very few helpful tips. This post here is really good!!!

Here is an excerpt from my post:
Quote:

Basic information:
Seat Ibiza 6L, model year 2004.
1.9L TDI pump-injector, 74 kW.

Problem:

"For about 2 weeks now, my Ibiza has been sporadically jerking when accelerating. 'Sporadically' means it doesn't always happen. If the car has been stationary for a while (hours), there are usually no problems for the first few kilometers after starting. Then, after about 15 km, it starts to jerk when accelerating. My commute to work is about 20 km, and I noticed that it starts jerking exactly after the same distance – which is quite strange. (You can still drive with the jerking, but only with reduced power and that strange jerking. As a layman, I would say that it's only running on 3 cylinders)."

"If the engine starts to stutter, it makes a knocking sound – like a tractor. If I restart it, the knocking disappears temporarily. However, if I immediately continue driving, it starts stuttering again, and the knocking returns. It only runs normally again if I let the vehicle stand (sometimes just 5 minutes is enough). There have also been times when I've driven over 200 km without the problem occurring."

The engine diagnostic light illuminates whenever the problem occurs. However, it sometimes turns off even when the engine is running properly.
Here's the translation:

"Additional note: It's now shining CONSTANTLY!"

--> So, either the engine runs perfectly fine, or it stutters and misfires severely. Only after a restart and a certain waiting period does the engine run smoothly again. The problem doesn't always occur.
Here's the translation:

"As an addition: Lately, he's always performing poorly after the first 15 kilometers. No matter how many times I restart."

Attempted problem-solving:

I then went to Bosch Service. They performed a diagnostic scan of the engine and determined that either the wiring harness to the "pump-injector" element is defective, or the "pump-injector" element itself is defective. According to the workshop, in most cases, only the wiring harness is affected. (Cost: 35 euros + labor = 170 euros). If the problem persists after replacing the wiring harness, the "pump-injector" element (material cost: 350 euros) must be replaced.

Overall, the whole thing seemed very unprofessional, especially since they didn't even inspect the car themselves (the engine diagnostics were read remotely from the office using a Wi-Fi device - connected by the intern).

I then went to another VW workshop – after all, it's a VW engine, so they should know what they're doing.

I got an appointment a few days later and left my car with VW for the entire day. They also only read the error codes and told me that there was currently no problem - which is obvious, since the engine runs smoothly for a while after restarting. I received the same diagnosis as I did at Bosch, but the repair was supposed to be much more expensive.

I had to pay 50 euros for the diagnosis, which probably took only 3 minutes - it's a rip-off...

Both workshops agreed that the problem was not related to the control unit.

Based on the tips I've received here, I'll probably have the wiring harness replaced. I'll try to provide an update.

I found some amazing pictures in your forum that really help to illustrate things.
I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.

What do you think? Should the entire wiring harness be replaced, or just the wiring harness inside the engine?

Thank you.

It refers to the wiring harness in the cylinder head. The part number is 038 971 600. It's not the complete wiring harness for the MSG (Engine Control Module). You replace just that one. If the problem is not resolved with that replacement, the PDE (Pump Deno Düse - injector pump) of the affected cylinder must be swapped with one from another cylinder. If the fault moves along with the PDE, you know that the problem lies with the PDE.

If Status 16 appears during acceleration, first remove the entire wiring harness.

Have you had your workshops inspected according to MWB 18? What were the results?
