Hello,

What is that?

http://mitglied.lycos.de/kraftbertil/Bilder/827.jpg

For my wife, this is a flower pot (honestly). icon_eek.gif

For us here in the forum, this is the foundation of our 4-cylinder TDI engines.

This is a VW engine block, model 827, MKB JB - gasoline engine, 1439cc, 51kw, from the year 1981. This block has 235,000 km on it. Of that, certainly 10,000-15,000 were under extremely stressful icon_biggrin.gif.

The TDI block has the same bore as the JB, but it is 1.5 cm taller to accommodate more stroke.

Hello Bertil,

If you have a woman who accepts that as a flower pot, then that's already a positive thing icon_biggrin.gif.

Hello.
Wolfgang.

Hi Bertil,

That reminds me of the thing about the history of the 827 engines... didn't you want to write something about that at some point? *grins*

"JB" sounds like what you might have in your rally car... did it have to sacrifice its engine?

Regarding the flower pot issue... I don't think people would enjoy it much. With soil and water inside, that thing would probably rust quite quickly.

Best regards,

Jan.

@bertil

'You're lucky to have an understanding wife! Before my wife was on board with it, I had a Trabant with the back cut out and sealed, used as a 'flower pot' in the garden! At first, the local authorities gave me a lot of trouble! But my wife made it clear to them that they shouldn't care. Well, then, when my wife finally agreed, that beauty had to go! I sold it to a garden center and got a few Deutschmarks for it! It stood in the garden for 6 years, exposed to all kinds of weather. You just put in a battery, took out the spark plugs, squirted some gasoline into each cylinder, pulled the starter cord, and the thing would run for its last ride!'
Unfortunately, I don't have any more pictures, as my ex 'borrowed' the photo album.

... the is the engine from my old rally car. The Jetta was "destroyed" at the second-to-last cup event, and I took the car apart and completely stripped it. Most of the parts were transferred to the new Jetta. I can provide pictures if you're interested.

No problem, just sandblast it, apply a clear coat, and it'll be fine. Usually, there are plastic inserts in the cylinder bores. As for the rust, that's not a problem anyway. Have you ever thought about how long unprotected gray cast iron can last in the rain?

By the way, the idea wasn't mine, but my wife's! icon_redface.gif
