Just got back from the mechanic. They said that the control unit cannot be updated and that I would need to replace it. Does this mean that some people who had their control units updated by tuners are now running a firmware version that isn't entirely compatible with their hardware?

I have since replaced the N75 module, but it hasn't made any difference.

The hardware is the same, at least VISUALLY. If you know the specific details about why it needs to be replaced, please share them. Otherwise, this control unit is a simple EDC15VM, as Rainer says, and it can easily be 're-flashed' icon_wink.gif.

I can confirm that.
Audi wanted around €800 for the more recent engine control unit with software version 0060.
I then asked in a chip tuning forum who could flash the device for me.
It was done for nothing, since it's based on an original data set.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"LG" can be translated as "Best regards" or "Sincerely". It is a common abbreviation for "Liebe Grüße", which means "Warm greetings" in English.

What changes did the software update bring for you?

I've been trying to get quotes for replacing the turbocharger. One quote was cheap, but they strongly recommended replacing the mass airflow sensor (MAF) first. I then logged the air mass again and found that above 3000 RPM, the target air mass is not being reached despite the correct boost pressure (approximately 810 mg/stroke instead of 880 mg/stroke at 4000 RPM). After replacing the MAF sensor, I got the same result. Then (unfortunately, only then...) I checked the smoke limit. There are no issues there. There's enough air, so even the boost pressure drop-off isn't having an effect. Afterwards, I searched for other BDG logs here and found (/viewtopic.php?t=24023 and /viewtopic.php?t=18346). They all have a too low air mass above 3000 RPM (except after tuning). It seems like this is normal!?

I was also advised to try lubricating the VTG shaft with a special grease from Audi, specifically designed for engines with electric VTG systems, before considering replacing the turbocharger. What are your thoughts on this?

Hello,

As long as the smoke limit in measurement block 8 does not fall below the torque limit imposed by the transmission, everything is okay.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello.

I also logged some instances of boost pressure overboost a while ago using VCDS and...
Table created.

Okay, the new turbo is installed: It still has a slight overshoot with a very mild undershoot, but the overall behavior looks "more normal." The full fuel injection amount is now released at just over 1700 RPM. There's no sign of the undershoot anymore when looking at the smoke reduction.
The new turbocharger becomes particularly noticeable while driving, especially in city traffic. Now, even in second gear, you experience the steep torque increase at low RPM when accelerating, just like I'm used to from other TDIs (2.0 TDI). Also, the intermittent interruption of power during overtaking on the highway hasn't occurred again so far.
