Hello everyone.
While reviewing the member list, I noticed that approximately 200 people have never posted in the forum, and about 170 have only made one post.
While this can help maintain a high number of members, the regular activities look quite different.
If the forum software allows for it:
What do you think about automatically deleting members after a fixed period from their last post?
This way, the "active" users would have a better overview of the forum members, Rainer would save some storage space, and anyone who wanted to rejoin after being removed could, of course, do so. Gruß Ulf

Hi Ulf,
If at all, I would make such a deadline (assuming technical feasibility) dependent on access to the page.
Why shouldn't interested 'casual readers' also be registered ?
Best regards, Rudi.

Hi Rudi,
As a read-only user, you do not need to be a forum member, AFAIK - therefore, in terms of visible participation , they are not different from the "anonymous" guests. Gruß Ulf

Hi Ulf,
Technically, you're probably right. However, in my opinion, something that would be lost is the sense of belonging and community.
Best regards, Rudi.

And yet another problem:
As an unregistered "read-only" user, one has to painstakingly search for the "new" posts.
As a registered user, you will see which posts are NEW!

Hello,
This would affect 210 users.
I regularly delete users who are registered but have never logged in.
I consider the performance degradation of the forum software, with a difference of 210 users, to be insignificant.
The posts, tables for the search function, and attachments consume the most storage space.
Currently, there's still plenty of room for growth in terms of storage capacity, roughly estimated at around 2.5 years. However, we're more likely to reach other limitations, such as the traffic limit.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hi.
On the other hand, ( if an automatic deletion based on the current voting result were implemented), one could still follow the new service for up to 1 year without posting anything.
And then, one could take the entrance exam again (if you've already passed it once, you should be able to do it again), and spend another year quietly following the "New Service" updates.
Or, in the extreme case, you could post something every 355 days and remain "eternally" registered.
Well, the fate of the forum probably doesn't hinge on that.
I was curious about the opinions expressed in the group (of course, further voting can still take place!), and what is ultimately done with the results should remain Rainer's decision. Gruß Ulf
