Hello everyone,
I've just finished a complete conversion of my 1992 Golf III gasoline engine to a 1996 TDI 1Z engine, including the Climatic system. I had it filled with refrigerant today, but the compressor isn't starting. All the cables in the engine bay are connected correctly, and I assumed the same was true for the relay box. The compressor can be started externally, but it immediately shuts off again. The dryer with the pressure valve is new. The interior fan also doesn't start immediately after starting the engine, but only after about 2 minutes, and the outside temperature display shows 'HE' instead of the temperature. I find all of this a bit strange, since the A/C worked perfectly in the previous car. I think it's an electrical problem. 'Does anyone know about this problem and have a solution for me, or can someone send me a wiring diagram for the air conditioning system? Otherwise, I have no idea how to get this thing working... Thanks in advance.'

HELLO kapselchrissi,
You are missing the outdoor temperature signal, which is why you see 'HE' displayed. Also, your climate control system will not activate if the temperature sensor is defective or not properly connected.
It could be below 5°C.
Unfortunately, I cannot provide a circuit diagram.
I hope this helps for now.
CU IBIZASWEN.

'First of all, thank you for the circuit diagram... I'll take a look at it tomorrow and hope I can make progress. I understand the part about the temperature sensor.' I don't understand how it can display the correct outside temperature when the blower is running. As I said, I will post again after checking the wiring. Hopefully, I'll have good news then. Thanks again.

'HE' is the symbol for the auxiliary heating function. It is activated via a PIN (black wire) connected to the climate control unit. You might have incorrectly connected the wiring harness from the control panel to the engine wiring harness.

Yes, something like that... the cable with the yellow connector, coming from the pressure switch, wasn't connected to the distribution panel. That was all. Now it's working, although it's releasing a lot of moisture from the ventilation slots. I think it's probably because it was empty for a long time (7 months).

It can't be that, because then everything would have to be dry. Unless it was outside!
When moisture sprays out of the nozzles, it's usually because the drain is clogged. This is the approximately 10 mm thick black tube that runs through the spray wall to the outside (roughly in the middle of the car). Normally, there's a rubber valve at the end, which then passes through the silver insulation on the spray wall. If it's blocked somewhere, the water can build up and be sucked away by the blower.
'This happened to me once in my Audi 100. During a very hot summer, I would get about 4°C of cold water splashed onto my accelerator pedal in every right-hand turn.' Nice feeling!

Thanks for the tip... it sounds very interesting. It wasn't actually broken outside, it was just out of service all the time because the air conditioning condenser was faulty, and I was looking for a cheap replacement. But I think the humidity has decreased.
I just checked... Two water hoses go quite high up to the heat exchanger. Between them, there's a pipe leading into the vehicle's interior. It's a fabric-covered hose with a diameter of about 10mm, which runs from the splash wall and ends after about half a meter in a kind of distribution valve... I couldn't find another hose coming out of the splash wall in the middle... The conversion was done about three-quarters of a year ago, so I'm not entirely sure if anything else was different there...
If I just knew how to set up a picture, I would take a picture .

Okay, I understand. The two hoses are water hoses. The small one in the middle is the vacuum hose for operating the recirculation flap. The condensate drain is located about 30-40 cm below these three hoses, behind the silver cover, at the level of the turbo. Once everything is completely installed, it's actually very difficult to access. If you look closely, you might see the pre-perforated opening in the silver heat shield. I also forgot to install the valve (I didn't know I needed to). And it still works without it. The condensate water now flows behind the heat shield. However, this may not always work. I bought a valve, but I couldn't install it because it's very difficult to reach, and it didn't seem that important to me in the end.

I found the perforation... that's the good news... the bad news is, there's no hole... the original model probably wasn't designed for that .... I looked inside the car and realized that the opening for the outflow ends inside my splash guard... I guess I'll have to get the drill out to fix it... who knows how much water has already accumulated under the mats... damn, you just don't think about things like that... I just hope there's only one outflow...
Addition...it was a real pain, drilling the hole in the splash guard after the fact, without removing the entire A-panel including the air conditioning...I couldn't find the original hose. I temporarily installed a hose from the aquarium as a drain pipe...let's see how it works...if it works, I'll just forget about the cheap parts from VW, right

I was unable to find the original hose. I temporarily used a hose from the aquarium as a drain pipe...
'Hose? The drain pipe is made of hard plastic, rigid, and firmly connected to the ventilation box. In my opinion, the box cannot be properly mounted without a hole in the splash guard. Did the original pipe section break off for you?' It needs to be about 10 cm long.

Okay, this part is made of solid plastic and ends a millimeter before the splash guard. I've now cut a hole in it and slid a hose onto it, which I've routed underneath the silver shield. I also tried to push the box further out, but it seems to be designed in a way that it doesn't extend outwards... it wasn't broken at all... Hmm... well, the main thing is that the water finds its way out... now it's happily dripping onto the support frame... much better than into the footwell.
Come on, now tell me that your is designed differently and make me scratch my head again.

Okay, I had the renovation done about 2 years ago. So, I can't remember everything 100% anymore. Therefore, I won't be able to recall everything I say. So, don't worry. 'If the water is draining, then everything is fine.'

I just tried again to push the whole apparatus a bit more... it's not moving any further towards the engine compartment... anyway, you get two big thumbs up from me... without you, I probably would have been able to breed guppies under the mats .
