hello
It's a dumb question, but even with professional help yesterday, we couldn't get my TDI running again after I removed the belt from the pump. If I hadn't already successfully done it twice before, I wouldn't have attempted it.
It seemed logical to me that the process would work: setting the engine to top dead center (TDC), the pump to top dead center (marking the pump), then placing the belt, and the machine should start running.
I've successfully done it this way twice before. So why the problems yesterday? We tried many different approaches, and ultimately, the diagnosis showed no errors, and it indicated that the injection was being administered correctly.
Did I do something wrong? The installation with the markings should have worked, right?
Perhaps someone has another tip?
Today, we will use the appropriate tools to make the settings static and reset everything to the default settings. Just the 27 different markings that have accumulated on various rollers/wheels over time are enough to drive anyone crazy.
"Thank you."

additional question regarding the DAU:
"The pump doesn't spin at the same speed as the motor, so the timing mark should appear more frequently; is that correct? How do I find the correct UT (timing)? Or is this completely nonsense?" volvo 850 tdi - 2.5l AEL aut. bj.96 - bald 500000km

It's always helpful to know what kind of vehicle you're working on. But since you're obviously an AEL fan, I'll assume that's what you're referring to.
Your pump is driven by a belt connected to the main drive shaft (NW). This means the pulley on the main drive shaft rotates at half the motor speed. This means it doesn't rotate multiple times, but essentially only half as often.
According to the diagnosis, is everything okay? Does diesel reach the injectors after loosening the locking nut?
Is everything connected correctly?
Does repeatedly replacing the belt cause the gears to shift prematurely?

Hello and thank you. Yes, VP37 with a 5-cylinder engine.
I can't even tell you if the diesel will arrive – I hadn't considered that. But could it be that there's air in the pump because of all the fiddling around?

"So, my colleague thoroughly analyzed the vehicle in his workshop. He said everything was misaligned, with the most extreme markings (yes, we're familiar with that). He adjusted all the basic settings, and now it's running properly again."
Then hopefully I can adjust the pump settings today and everything will be okay again.
"Thank you."

Okay, here's the latest update - things are moving forward.
I had the thing at my friend's workshop, and we took a close look at it. He thinks the "OT" (Over Torque) marking is rotated 180 degrees - could that be possible?! Is it possible to install the shock absorber upside down on this bike?!
I, for one, don't understand it, but I've accepted it and made some adjustments, and it's working better than ever.

PS: @ BM , you probably meant it as a joke, but by the way, the previous owner also had the spanner/bolt fixed, as he simply inserted it after over-tightening the thread. Another plus point for him!? volvo 850 tdi - 2.5l AEL aut. bj.96 - bald 500000km
