Hello, I have to admit I'm new here.
I tried using the search function, but I'm still no wiser.

My problem:
I'm planning to build/buy/acquire... okay, not steal, but...
Before I start with perfboard, does anyone have a tip (like pre-etched PCBs)?

The real problem.

The car in question is a 2002 Golf, a TDI-PD model with 150 horsepower (1.9L). According to the wiring diagrams, there are TWO CAN bus lines specified for it.
These are labeled as 'High' and 'Low'.

This aligns with my understanding of the K and L lines. What goes together?
Does the vehicle have two bus systems, similar to how it's implemented with two K-lines in an adapter?

I'm a bit confused. Who brings light into the darkness?

Hi,
High and Low are the two connections for the CAN bus (Pin 6 is CAN High, Pin 14 is CAN Low). You won't find an L-line on this car.
However, K still needs to be on pin 7. If it already has a second K-line, it will be on pin 15.

Best regards, Rudi.

Thank you for the quick response.

Just to be sure I understand everything correctly:

Does the diagnosis NOT run via the CAN bus? Because that would involve two separate lines.

But rather through the K-line and ground (and possibly through a second K-line?).

What was L for?

I always thought the K and the C were the same bus!

The CAN bus is the internal communication network within a car that controls and/or monitors various components, essentially forming the connected car. However, CAN is just one type of bus system.

ODB is the external interface to the car, and it provides two K-line connections (and an L-line connection in older models).

Through the ODB interface, you will certainly query data from the car via the CAN bus, but the bus system should not matter to the diagnostic device; therefore, only the defined interface should be used (where 'defined' mainly refers to the connector design icon_sad.gif).

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'I'm looking for a PCB etcher, it seems Johannes is on vacation?'

Best regards, Spip.

Update... Why is the word 'Urlaub' (vacation) being linked to a travel agency website?

... because the webmaster (I have no idea who that is icon_wink.gif) makes money with every click on the link. Since maintaining the site also costs some euros, we want to support him, otherwise things will quickly go dark here.
