Hello,
war am Montag bei der VW Niederlassung in Ulm beim 'großen' Kundendienst. It was done.
- Oil change with filter.
- Brake fluid changed.
- Air filter replaced.
- Replaced rear license plate lamp (installation/removal time: 17 minutes?).
- Replaced the rear windshield wiper.
- Customer service list with all boxes checked.
'This whole thing cost me a whopping €409! Is that normal? What did you guys roughly pay for something similar? I'm not driving a Bentley! Next time, I'm going to an independent garage. A friend of mine had the same work done (except for brake fluid, he got a serpentine belt instead) on a Mercedes there and only paid €120.'

Hi Markus,
I'm still waiting for my invoice for my 'major' 60,000 km service.
This time, the timing belt was replaced on my Seat (engine code: ASV). - The replacement intervals depend on the vehicle's VIN. For mine, it's every 60,000 km, but the tensioner (a so-called 'LONG LIFE' tensioner) doesn't need to be replaced.
For older vehicles with ASV (Automatic Stretch Valve), the interval is every 90,000 km, including replacement of the spring.
Let's see how much this is going to cost me.

See you.

Steffi H.

Hi Steffi,

Okay, here's the translation:

"At some point, this will be interesting for me too, even though there are still 51,000 km to go icon_wink.gif. My ASV is newer than yours, so it should also fall under the 60,000 km regulation."

Best regards,

Jan.

The whole thing cost me a short time ago !!! 409 euros !!!, is that normal

Hi.

Well, if icon_twisted.gif fewer and fewer customers visit (brand) workshops because of such prices, then the remaining customers will inevitably be charged even more - it's quite logical, somewhere icon_lol.gif.

Okay, putting the jokes aside: what does your invoice say about the labor hours and material costs? As far as I know, there are standard timeframes for "routine inspections." If the invoice shows more labor hours, that should be justified by some additional work performed.

What the workshops can't prevent, of course, is charging, for example, 200 euros for half an hour of work for a standard inspection... but these hourly rates should, in my opinion, be clearly displayed.
Of course, not as large as the price displays at supermarket gas stations - because then many customers would turn around and leave, instead of ordering any work to be done }.

Regarding the topic of tension:

By the way, it has just under 60,000 kilometers on it.
Do you want to see the rest as well? icon_confused.gif

Post06-06-2002, 15:40    Subject: AFN Inspection Costs: What You Need to Know Quote

Hi Markus,

Last Friday, I also had a major service (125,000 km) done on my Passat 35i with the AFN engine. In addition, the front brake discs and pads were replaced. The total cost was €581. The brakes accounted for about half of the cost, €110 was for the service plus mobility guarantee and vehicle inspection, and the rest was for parts – all filters, oil, brake fluid, antifreeze, etc.
Even for my parents' Audi 100 TDI, a major service cost almost 100€ less.

409 euros seems a bit too much to me.

Greetings,
Munch.

I think that's really too much; I can only afford it if I have the timing belt replaced.
I initially went to a workshop where I paid around 190 DM for a small repair. However, when I showed up without an appointment (the first time it was a faulty magnetic valve and mass airflow sensor), I was scolded and told to make an appointment in advance.
After that, I switched workshops. I've now found a small 'workshop' and pay about €70 for the small service and about €200 for the large one (including brakes). And the master mechanic, sometimes even the boss himself (which you find less and less these days icon_cry.gif), is happy to take care of my small problems, with a wait of only about 10 minutes. And they still have the VW/Audi service stamp there!!
