"It won't fit."
This happened today at our ALH-Ibiza location.
Apparently, the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF sensor) from Bosch has failed on a colleague's car (a 110 HP Octavia), and I was actually planning to remove the sensor tomorrow to try cleaning it.
Earlier, I took measurements on the Ibiza (whose lambda sensor is still OK) to determine which Torx size fits, and it turns out: From the outer diameter, it appears to be a 15, but the nipple on the screw is thicker than the hole in the tool .
And it does this with 2 different tools: a Torx screwdriver and a bit insert!!
"How do you remove the LMM (Laser Material Processing) inserts from the tube when, for example, you're installing a DC (Direct Current) insert?" Gruß Ulf

Hi, my LMM (likely referring to a Lambda sensor or similar component) came off with a Torx 20 bit! Gruss Ralf

Hi,
Thank you, I just tried it myself with a size 20, and it fit (it looked too thick to me at first) .
Well, then I will include the size in the LMM technical article - if it works for you and for me, that will probably be the standard size. Gruß Ulf

Hello Ulf,
I have a set of security bits from Proxxon, and those work. It also includes other great items, such as three-wing screwdriver bits and slotted screwdrivers with a hollow shaft.
Very expensive, around 40 euros. There are also cheaper, generic options available at hardware stores.
Best regards,
Helmut.
EDIT:
Problem seems to be solved! I haven't tried it with anything else.

Hi,
"However, you can find similar tools from well-known brands at a much lower price. It's just that the hardware store charges extremely high prices!"

In that shop (mentioned above), there used to be a set of bits containing all sorts of specialized keys (triangular, three-slot, Torx with hole, Allen with hole, etc.) for just 14 euros. Gruß Bertil

Hi there,
'I recently bought a no-name toolset from Wolfcraft at Globus. It contains all sorts of specialized bits and cost €4.95. Of course, the quality and durability of the bits can be debated. However, I think it's sufficient for the frequency and type of tasks I need to do.'

Hello,
A good source for tools is also the online shop of Westfalia. They have a 108-piece set with pretty much all the unusual and less common safety bits for just 20 pence.

A few days ago, I encountered a new variant (manufacture date 5/03): Instead of a 20mm Torx, it has a slightly larger 5-point star with a pin in the center. Even the complete Westfalia box with all the possible security bits failed, I had to mill a groove to be able to screw on those darn parts. Perhaps VW has now reacted to the DIY hardware store enthusiasts (?).
Regards,
Robert.

Hello robertf,
Not a 20mm Torx, but a slightly larger 5-point star with a pin in the center.
You can find the corresponding socket wrenches ('nuts') at Klann. They cost 11.90 euros.
You might also want to check with Snap-On sometimes; they often have unusual items. I'm not sure about Hazet right now.
Regards,
Pure.

I can confirm that, as it's used in models like the 110kW TDI.
I removed the two screws using a small, fine-toothed pipe wrench.
I then replaced the screws with T20 Torx screws so that I wouldn't have any problems when replacing them in the future.
VW has been using those screws for at least 2 years! That means the mass airflow sensor (MAF sensor) is probably that old.

Hi,
Does anyone happen to know the required size for the aforementioned screws?

I'd guess around 20 or 25, but how can we measure that more precisely?
